On January 7, 2020, after the release of important experimental evidence to identify the "true culprit" of the new coronavirus, the number of outpatients in the fever clinic of Wuhan Tongji Hospital increased from an average of 40 to 50 per day, and the peak suddenly increased to over 1,000. On January 7, when General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, he put forward requirements for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic.

On January 8, the second group of experts from the National Health and Medical Commission arrived in Wuhan, and revised and improved the methods of diagnosis and treatment, monitoring, epidemiological investigation and disposal, sampling and testing of new coronary pneumonia. On January 13, the World Health Organization issued a statement saying that it had received a report of a Chinese traveler confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus in Thailand. On January 19, after attending the epidemic seminar in the morning, the high-level expert group immediately went to Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital and Wuhan CDC for field investigation. There was no time to rest at noon, and the meeting lasted until 5 o'clock in the afternoon, and then boarded the flight to Beijing. Arriving in Beijing, the group immediately rushed to the National Health Commission for a meeting.

After obtaining first-hand investigation data in Wuhan, the members of the expert team became more and more convinced that the novel coronavirus was transmitted from person to person.

In the early morning of January 20, six high-level experts walked into Zhongnanhai, directly faced the decision-making level, and reported their analysis opinions on the epidemic. The executive meeting of the State Council that day also added an agenda for the deployment of epidemic prevention and control. Zhong Nanshan and Li Lanjuan were invited to attend and put forward specific suggestions on epidemic prevention and control and treatment. Members of the expert group appealed: people from Wuhan should not go out, and people from other places should not come in.

On January 20, Xi Jinping made important instructions on the pneumonia epidemic caused by the new coronavirus, emphasizing that people's life safety and health should be put first, and resolutely curb the spread of the epidemic.
