When Lin Huiting and
Wanyan met with old Chinese doctor Chai Jianhua, they talked about the Great Leap
Forward era. Lin Huiting said: It was the most typical "people's
war." This is the main reason for the sharp deterioration of Sino-Soviet
relations, turning against each other, and even the large-scale
"anti-revisionism". Lin Huiting believes that the absurdity of the
Great Leap Forward is enough to make all mankind laugh for 10,000 years. The
number of Chinese people killed, forced to death, and starved to death in the
Great Leap Forward in just a few years exceeded the sum of the number of people
who starved to death in the previous 2,000 years, even almost the third. The
total number of people who died in the war in the world in World War II.
After hearing Lin
Huiting's words, Chai Jianhua, an old doctor of Chinese medicine, suddenly
became speechless. This is not because he supported or approved the
establishment of the Great Leap Forward and the People's Commune. He has also
checked some relevant materials and information over the years. Many experts
and scholars said that with the carefully cultivated personality cult, the
collective submission of the central leadership, the silence caused by the
"anti-rightist movement", and the blind obedience of hundreds of
millions of people who cannot but be slaves, the "Great Leap Forward"
in 1958 "The flames of war will be ignited quickly. It was against this
background that in May of that year, the Second Session of the Eighth National
Congress of the Communist Party of China officially announced the start of the
Great Leap Forward. In August of the same year, the Beidaihe Conference of the
Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to establish people’s
communes in rural areas.
Chai Jianhua remembers
that the newspapers said: The purpose of the "Great Leap Forward" is
to build an industrialized superpower in the shortest time. The core content of
the Great Leap Forward is to produce more grain so that more grain can be
purchased in exchange for more industrial equipment and technology to achieve
industrialization quickly. . As the whole country is frantically building
factories and large-scale industrial projects, in order to increase production
and purchase more grain to meet the material and capital needs of industrial
construction, the whole country is constantly advocating "satellite release"
from top to bottom. It has also led to the Great Leap Forward of other
industries, and various "big operations for the whole people" have
also been carried out in transportation, post and telecommunications,
education, culture, health and other undertakings. But the sources of funds and
materials needed are the vast rural areas and farmers.
Anyone who has lived
through that era knows that the National Poetry Movement, the Mural Painting
Movement, the Great Determination Movement, and mutual challenges have pushed
the atmosphere of the Great Leap Forward to a climax. In Pixian County, Jiangsu
Province, 15,000 "art backbones" emerged and completed 183,000 murals
a month; in Guanhu Town, 70 people who worked in the fields all day painted 500
murals overnight. More than 168,000 people in Nanyang County, Henan Province
participated in this campaign and wrote more than 5.5 million poems and
articles within five days. In many places, "songs become oceans and poems
become mountains, leap into the sky with singing; Taibai fighting wine has a
hundred poems, and farmers only need half a cigarette."
But Chai Jianhua did not
know the story behind the Great Leap Forward movement.
Lin Huiting said: Why
was the Great Leap Forward soaring? It was driven by the whip of power, the
terror of politics and the temptation of a utopian paradise, which washed away
all the dams of reason and conscience. Slave hooligans, thugs, thugs, the
"five winds" of communism, exaggeration, forced orders, blind
command, and specialization of cadres swept the country. Peasants live in
houses, smash stoves and cooking utensils, and can only drink big pots of clear
soup in public cafeterias; exaggerated winds such as high-yield satellites,
false reports of achievements, "inventions and creations" and other
bragging and lying lead to terrible consequences such as violence and high
procurement; High-level cadres can arbitrarily punish or even beat people to
death, so as to force farmers to work endlessly; blindly command winds to cause
reckless actions that waste people and money, ruin their families, and destroy
the ecological environment; And enjoy the privileges of life... Because the
"five winds" are intertwined and do evil to each other, it disturbs
the sky and the earth in Shenzhou, as if the end of the world is coming.
Lin Huiting added: My
first impression of the Great Leap Forward was that it turned rural areas into
slave labor camps where coolies were forced to work. The shameless theorist
Chen Boda once summarized Lao Mao's Great Leap Forward thought as "one day
equals twenty years", which was approved by Lao Mao. So "one day is
equal to twenty years" became a slogan in the Great Leap Forward
comparable to "surpassing the British and catching up with the
beautiful". In order to complete labor tasks that cannot be done by
manpower to achieve the high target of "one day is equal to twenty
years", it is doomed that the Chinese peasants who mainly use primitive
tools must first suffer from hard work and even pay the price of exhaustion.
In order to make it
easier to drive peasants into hard labor, the organizational form of
"military communism" was generally implemented in various places. At
the Chengdu Conference in March 1958, Lao Mao proposed to eliminate the family
and advocate a new village utopia of communism, common food, and co-living.
After hearing the news, there was a wave of "elimination of the
family" and "running into communism". At that time, families
were dismantled in many places, reorganized according to male laborers, female
laborers, old people and children, living in different companies, assigned
different labor quotas and canteen quotas, and could not see each other before
the specified time. Farmers were forced to move out of the villages and houses
where they had lived for generations. Many houses were forcibly demolished, and
their residences were relocated. He died miserably in exhaustion and
exhaustion, not even being able to see the face of his relatives when he died.
Lin Huiting’s wife, Wan
Yanfu, said to Chai Jianhua, an old Chinese doctor: I once read an article
written by Shi Yunyu, a reporter from Sichuan Daily. It is a big factory, with
thousands of troops mobilized during the day, and the sky full of bright lights
at night, the climax is the beginning of the production movement, and the
climax is the beginning.” After the establishment of the People’s Commune, this
big battlefield was even more darkened. The rural labor force has almost become
a perpetual motion machine that never sleeps, and the people's communes have become
concentration camps for forced labor. In some places, a number is even sewn on
each person's body to replace this person, and people are forced to be driven
like livestock. Those urban student children who went to elementary school in
those days also participated in the "night battle with lights" as
hard labor.
"Great
industry" and "big water conservancy" took away the strong labor
force, and there was a sudden shortage of labor in the Wenjiang area of Sichuan
(now the urban area and county of Chengdu) with the highest rural population
density in China. In Dayi County, when half of the main labor force went to the
mountains to make iron, children from teens to 70-year-olds were all
incorporated into the field corps, breaking the boundaries of the township
communes and teams, and using mobile warfare and positional warfare to fight in
the southeast, northwest, Set up camps everywhere, shifting battles in turn,
"work hard all day during the day, and fight continuously at night when it
gets dark."
Lin Huiting amplified
her voice, and suddenly angrily reprimanded: "The method of driving labor
is suppression that is not as human or even animalistic. Overnight, Chinese
society suddenly fell into a barbaric era of disguised captivity and forced
labor."
In the early morning of
the summer of 2020, Chai Jianhua, a 96-year-old Chinese doctor, was awakened by
cicadas.
The memories of past
events that disturbed him overnight brought him back to the period of
suppressing counter-revolutionaries and land reform, and he gradually returned
to calm from fear.
Lin Huiting said to Chai
Jianhua: "Do you still remember the booklet I gave you on my 90th
birthday? This booklet disclosed many facts, such as Zhou Guoxun, a young woman
in Yingjing County, Sichuan Province, who was unable to work due to uterine
prolapse and was given birth to Team leader Ding Yongquan stabbed him to death
from his vagina with a hoe. Guo Shi, a commune member in Dianjiang County, was
seriously ill and was bedridden. The team leader forced him to go to work and
killed him. Changning County rural private prison was forced to work. Taoping
Commune Zhongba Management District Labor Reform Team was 11 years old. The
girl Chen Yuxiu worked continuously for five days and five nights, bleeding
from her mouth and nose. The party secretary of the Ruan Gang Brigade of
Shangshiqiao Commune in Shangcheng County, Henan Province forced Wang Tianfu,
Cai Zhenli and other seven people to plow the plow in the ice field with wooden
sticks, and died on the spot. 3 People. Feng Yinshan’s family in Jiangbei
County, Chongqing, suffered from swollen disease and was unable to go to work.
The whole family was deprived of food, and all 7 members of the family died.”
Chai Jianhua remembered
that it was the day when he first met Lin Huiting, and it was also the day of
Lin Huiting's 90th birthday. The booklet that Lin Huiting gave him was called
"The Catastrophe of Life", written by Wang Changcai. The pamphlet was
written in Chengdu. The author may be from Sichuan,
But the introverted old Chinese
doctor Chai Jianhua was timid by nature and didn't care about politics, so he
didn't read the book "The Catastrophe of Life" seriously.
Perhaps it was time that
educated Chai Jianhua. He suddenly felt that he could not and could not be
separated from the society, and he would never be able to get rid of the cruel
politics. Political movements forced everyone to reflect: Who are we living
for, and who is depriving us? People's lives?
Lin Huiting and Wanyan
couple left. When bidding farewell to the old Chinese doctor Chai Jianhua, Lin
Huiting said to him: You may wish to read "The Great Catastrophe of
Life" when you have free time, and you can focus on the various
"big" scandals in the Great Leap Forward. . Maybe you can also contact
today's China, and if you learn it from time to time, you will definitely gain
something.
