Liberate Yourself Chapter 20

1

People live in the world, do not feel inferior and think that you are inferior. In my childhood, my elder brother not only taught me to skate, but also taught me to step on stilts, but also taught me to raise my head to be a man and walk upright.

Stepping on stilts is one of the traditional folk activities of the Han nationality. Stepping on stilts is commonly known as tying firewood feet, also known as "stilts", "stepping stilts", "sticking high feet", and "walking high legs". It is a popular folk art performance that is often performed by dancers in some folk festivals. Performed in the square with long wooden stilt. Stepping on stilts is highly skilled and lively in various forms. Because the actors stepping on stilts are higher than the average person, it is convenient for viewing from a distance, and the flow is convenient.

On stilts, not only do the people dressed in costumes, make-up and makeup, and sing and dance, but also often dress up in opera dramas, such as "Guanfu Send", "Nuotiangong", "Eight Immortals", "Shuimanjinshan" and so on. The characters on stilts have different shapes because of their different identities. The height of the feet of Fahai in Shuimanjinshan is 4 feet, and the size of Xiao Shami is 2.5 feet. The fish, soldiers and prawns will roll and slap, so The wooden feet are only 1.5 feet high.

My body is very short due to malnutrition. Big Brother said to me: "Don't worry about yourself, don't care what other people say about you, laugh at you. I can make you grow taller, and grow taller than anyone else."

Big brother is doing carpentry work, he sawed two long wooden legs. Planing wood on the side and facing me, said: "There is a legend in Chinese folk. In the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States period, there was a great minister, his name was Yan Ying. Yan Ying was very short, and some people would laugh at him. On one occasion, Yan The infant emissary and his neighbors all laughed at his short stature, so he fitted himself with a pair of wooden legs. With that pair of wooden legs, he suddenly became taller, making those princes laugh. The baby used the question to play again and ridiculed those gentlemen, making them very embarrassed."

Big Brother made the stilts: "Look, this is the wooden legs that Yan Ying used." Big Brother stepped on the stilts and walked in front of me. Wow, God, big brother Like a giant.

"Come and try," Big Brother said to me.

I finally stepped on stilts and was able to walk freely. I suddenly felt that I was not inferior.

My elder brother said to me: "The activities on stilts have been spreading among the people. In the past, there was a county called Liangjin City. The people in the city and outside the city were very friendly. Every spring festival, they jointly organized a social fire and wished each other a prosperous business. Unexpectedly, a corrupt official came, and he saw this as an opportunity to make a fortune. He said that everyone who enters and exits the city to set up social fires must pay three cents each. The ordinary people refuse to pay any money, and the corrupt officials ordered the city to be closed. The door and the suspension bridge are hung. But it is hard for people who are smart to walk on the stilts, over the city walls, across the moat, and continue to celebrate the Spring Festival. So stepping on stilts is a holiday for the people."

Regarding the origin of stilts, scholars think that it is related to the totem worship of primitive clans and the fishing life of coastal fishermen. According to historians' research, the Danzhu clan with the crane as the totem in the Yao and Shun era, they would dance on a stilt to simulate a crane during the ceremony. Archaeologists believe that there is already a similar word in the ancient Chinese script.

The ancient document "Shan Hai Jing" contains a description of "long-strand country". According to the ancients' notes, we can see that "long-strand country" is related to stomping. From the note of "Long-footed people often have long-armed people fishing in the sea", it is not difficult to imagine that the feet are tied with long wooden stilts and hold the original fishing tools made of long wooden fishing in the shallow sea. Image. What is more interesting is that today the Jing fishermen living on the coast of Fangcheng, Guangxi, still have the habit of fishing on shallow wooden nets and fishing in the shallow sea.

Art originates from nature. In fact, stepping on stilts is a product of the struggle between humans and natural conditions.

Stilt belongs to one of the 100 ancient operas in ancient my country, and it appeared as early as the Spring and Autumn Period. The earliest introduction of stilts in our country was the "Liezi·Shufu" article: "Songs with Lanzis use skills to do Song Yuan. Song Yuanzhao sees his skills. With double branches, he grows his body and belongs to his shin. The seven swords jumped and the five swords were often in the air. Yuan Jun was shocked and gave gold silk." From the text, we can see that stilts were popular as early as more than 500 BC. Performers not only use long woods to walk on their feet, but also jump and dance swords. There are three types of stilts: stilts, middle stilts, and running stilts.

The stilts of Baihong in the Han and Wei and Six Dynasties were called "swing skills", and in the Song Dynasty they were called "taqiao". Known as "Stilts" since the Qing Dynasty, it is made of 1 to 3 foot long wooden bars with wooden supports. The performer binds his feet to wooden sticks and transforms into various characters. One or more people come and go to dance, accompanied by Suona, and perform interesting actions or stories. Beijing is called "Stilt Club". The Yellow River Basin is called "Zha Gaojiao", which is divided into Wenqiao and Wuqiao. Wen Qiao mainly performs walking and singing, with simple dance moves. Wu Qiu performs handstands, high-jump tables, stacked arhats, and splits.

According to records in ancient books, ancient stilts are all made of wood, and a support point is made in the middle of the planed sticks to put the feet on, and then tied to the legs with ropes. Performers step on stilts and can perform actions such as sword dancing, splitting, jumping on stools, crossing tables, and twisting Yangge. In the stilts Yangge in the north, the characters played include fisherman, matchmaker, silly son, younger brother, Taoist, and monk. The performers are funny and can arouse great interest from the audience. The stilts in the south play mostly roles in opera, including Guan Gong, Zhang Fei, Lu Dongbin, He Xiangu, Zhang Sheng, matchmaker, Ji Gong, fairy, and clown. They sang while playing, lively and lively, laughing and having fun, and walking on the ground. It is also said that walking on stilts turned out to be a kind of stilting activity developed by the ancients in order to gather wild fruits on trees and tie two long sticks to their legs.

There are various forms of stilt performances across China.

The stilts used by people today are mostly wooden, and the performances are divided into double and single. The double stilt is tied to the calf to show the skill; the single stilt is the top of the wooden stilt with both hands, which is convenient for up and down, dynamic and interesting. The performances are divided into "Wen Shou" and "Wu Shou". Weng Shou re-emphasizes the image and twists, while Wu Shou emphasizes personal skills and unique tricks. Stilts everywhere have formed a distinct regional style and national color.

The northern Hebei martial arts stilts originated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and are unique folk arts in my country.

The height of stilts varies across Shanxi, ranging from a few inches low to seven or eight feet high. In counties such as Ruicheng and Xinjiang in Shanxi, the height of the stilts reaches ten feet or even eight feet. Usually, stilts are more than four feet high. The spread of stilts in Shanxi has a long history. Pictures of stilts and acrobatics can also be seen on the Northern Wei sarcophagus unearthed in Yushe County in the middle of Jinzhong. Although there are no written records of stilts, it should start from the Northern Wei Dynasty at the latest. The ranks of performing stilts in Shanxi are divided into two types: Wen stilts and Wu stilts. Wen stilt is more important than twisting and stepping, Wu stilt is mainly for performing stunts.

Wu Stilts in Fushan County, with the head stilts as the commander, the second stilts as the leader, the opera characters in the center, and finally the ugly man pressed into battle. The performance first twists the various field pictures, and then performs various difficult movements such as "crossing the fairy bridge", "jumping the table", "jumping the double stools", "big split".

In the Hu Village area of Yuanqu County, stilts mainly perform stunts. The stilt performances here not only include tricks such as crutches, bumps, back crutches, falling forks, jumping tables, and somersaults, but also difficult lifting such as lifting two sections, lifting three sections, sitting lifting, standing lifting, combined lifting, etc. Law, and can constitute the shape of "horse-drawn carriage" and "overpass". On the stilts of this county, the most difficult thing is to "go up to the tiger ladder."

The "Butterfly Butterfly" in Baibi Village in Xinjiang County and Shuangchi Town in Jiaokou County is a stilt show with both a storyline and many difficult movements. This show is performed by three people. The young girl plays the horn, and the butterfly moves forward. The young man plays the niche, holding the fan and flapping the butterfly. The clown shakes the rattle and chases playfully. It is very lively, vivid, and very interesting. In the performance, these three people have "squatting", "jumping the table", "harrier turning", "over head jumping", "rolling backwards", "single leg jumping" and other technical actions.

The "walking beast stilts" in Jishan County and Youyu County are connected stilts performed by two people. The stilts performers are tied with wooden stilts on their feet, tied with animal skins on their waists, and beast heads on the front.

It is very difficult for three people in Xia County and other places to step on four stilts and four people with a total of five "stilts".

On the stilts in Yuanping, Pingding, and Dingxiang counties, twist the Yangge steps while changing the formation, and then comment and sing, called "Stilt Yangge". In Qianjiazhuang of Xi County, there is also a "bell stilt" performance with a small bell block attached to the leg joint.

In Shanxi Province, there are various forms of stilts, and there are many kinds of performances. The performance time of these stilts is generally in the "Red Fire" activities around the fifteenth of the first lunar month. Stilts are a form of performance in the whole activity. The content of this kind of activity is very flexible, and the action is relatively free. You can perform in the big field, or you can walk in the streets.

Shandong stilts often stack three layers (two to three layers without stilt) to play the characters of the opera, and the upper people step on the shoulders of the lower people and proceed as usual.

On the stilts around Beijing and Tianjin, actors often perform tricks such as "one-leg jump", "split", and "over obstacles"; others use one-leg performance to leap from four high tables to perform stunts.

Stilt is popular in the Northeast, and it is most famous for the "Stilt in South Liaoning". Its form is complete and the performance is standardized. At the beginning, it is necessary to "hide the elephant" (the shape of the two layers) to sing the Yangge, meaning "the peace is like an elephant", and then run The formation was changed in the big field, and then group performances were performed in pairs, "fluttering butterflies", "fishing fishermen fishing", and playing folk trivia.

Since I learned to step on stilts, I often step on stilts and play with the children in the alley. They will also borrow my stilts to turn around in the alley. Gradually, in this alley where I lived, the children had one more game, which was stepping on stilts.

Previously, every lunar month, there were stilts in various parts of China. A team of stilts walks through the street in percussion music of waist drums, small cymbals gongs, and big and small hairpins. The number of stilts varies, generally a dozen. A tall stilt, a short stilt. Performers are dressed in traditional costumes. When the head was beaten by an open road stick, artistic images such as Sean, White Snake, Tang Seng, Ugly Poet, Jiang Ziya appeared. Because of the humorous, rough, gratifying, eloquent feelings, and occasional fun, it has always been loved by the people.

The stilts meeting is generally organized spontaneously by the masses. On the eleventh and twelfth of the first lunar month, they started to step on the street, meaning that people will be numbered in many folk flower fairs this year. On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, it was officially put on the street until the 18th party ended. During the meeting, the big merchants along the way set up eight immortal tables in front of the door, put tea, snacks, firecrackers, and Dao to express their condolences. The stilts team will stay here for a while, or perform thanks.

The stilts' queues generally use a single line of a long snake array while traveling on the street, and use a two-person formation in a busy crowded area. Steps are transformed into walking characters. During the performance, there are some difficult movements such as small whirlwind, squirrel, harrier turning over and big split. Stilt art is still organized for rehearsals during winter leisure in some rural areas. It can also be seen in garden fairs and temple fairs throughout Beijing.

My brother taught me to step on stilts and taught me not to be self-sorrowful. If I stand a little higher, I will look farther than others.
