Liberate yourself Chapter 4

1

In August 1954, my father was transferred to work in Shanghai. Our family left Shenyang, where I was born, and went to Shanghai with my father. I was 4 years old.
My parents grew up in Shanghai since I was a child, and have lived in the metropolis of Shanghai for a long time, so I have a deep feeling for Shanghai.
His father was assigned as the vice principal of Shanghai Beijiao Middle School. Because he studied in Kangda University, after participating in the battle of Liaoshen, he stayed at Shenyang No.11 Middle School to teach because of injuries, and should also be a leader.
After his father moved to Shanghai to work, Beijiao Middle School allocated a house, yes
A garden house is located at No. 15 Gaolan Road.
Gaolan Road is a short road. But it was a very quiet road, originally called Gao Naiyi. All buildings from the 11th to the 17th are English-style garden houses, built in 1914. The building is made of brick and wood. The sloped roofs are staggered and combined with richness. The facade is exposed with wooden frames, emphasizing the contrast between the fresh water red brick and the imitation stone wall. The open porch or terrace is decorated with a simplified tower trunk style, giving a soft and light style sense. The entrances are all equipped with steps and are simply decorated with curves. The overall size of the building is small and friendly. It has now been incorporated into Shanghai's outstanding historical buildings.
At the west end of this small road, from No. 19 to No. 29, including Lane 21 and Lane 25, there are garden houses with European architecture. The building structure and architectural style are diversified, ranging from brick-wood structures to mixed structures; there are English country house styles, Spanish and German styles, and even modern garden residences. These buildings were built between 1914 and 1940.
This little road is still a celebrity street. The German-style buildings were invested and built by a Russian diaspora named Ivan in the last century. A Yangzhou businessman Gao Yisheng bought the 27th of gold equivalent to 300 stone rice. Xu Boqing, a famous calligrapher who has lived in this building for more than 50 years, also named his fighting room "Huaihai Hall".
On the 29th garden, Li Zuxun, who received a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Berlin, returned to China and bought it from a Russian. The Li family is a family from Ningbo, Zhejiang, and his sister Li Qiujun is well-known in the painting world of the Republic of China. She shares her siblings with Zhang Daqian, a famous painter. Kangtai, a famous movie award, lived here from the 1960s to the early 1980s.
Our house is a very spacious villa on the second floor. Not only does the house have plenty of light, but it also has a beautiful balcony. In front of the balcony is a large garden of about 200 square meters. Various flowers are planted in the garden.
We also have a large bathroom, and I am particularly pleased that there is a large bathtub in the bathroom. Speaking of this big bathtub, I remembered a little thing: When I was a child, my father always asked my brother to help me take a bath. For me, I was afraid of taking a bath. I was afraid that the bathtub was filled with water. I heard that water would drown people. . My brother even forced me to jump into the water that would drown people. Once, because I was afraid of death, I disobeyed my brother's orders, and my brother beat me with belted pants. Unexpectedly, the belt buckle on the waist of the trousers just hit my head, and suddenly blood flowed. I cried a lot.
When the father wanted to beat his brother mercilessly, the brother quickly said it was a window
A slingshot hit by someone in the opposite window. My father asked me, did he?
I nodded. I didn't want to see my father beat his brother with a military belt.
However, I have left a long and narrow scar on my head. This small scar is unbiased, just in the middle of the two hairpins on the top of my head, and now still has this unforgettable scar clearly.
In the summer, my brother will take me and my friends barefoot and race on the tarred road scorched by the sun. The scorching asphalt road is unstoppable. As long as you stop for a while, the soles will not be hot It s weird when it comes out!
It was this hot asphalt road that forced us to rush forward. Sometimes, we also dig some small things such as spikes, shoes or keys, cents embedded in the melted asphalt road on this asphalt road, and every time we dig out a gadget, we will be happy to call , As if we dug a baby.
My childhood, full of naivety, spent a long time on this hot asphalt road. This road is very short, called Gaolan Road, and nearby is Sinan Road and Xiangshan Road, with the former residences of Sun Zhongshan, Yuan Shikai, Zhang Xueliang, and Wei Lihuang.

My childhood was spent in Sinan Road Kindergarten. That is a very high-end kindergarten. At that time, there were two babysitters in my family. One babysitter took me to kindergarten and took care of my sister. Another babysitter wants to take care of my mother. She has just given birth to my little brother and she has to take care of my big brother.
My favorite in kindergarten is painting and clay sculpture. My paintings "Little Swallow" and "Umbrella Child" successively participated in the children's painting exhibition held in Luwan District at that time.
Sometimes, my father also went to the kindergarten to attend the parent meeting and took me home. On the way home, I always help me buy some cigarette brands at the small stalls. The cigarette brands that impress me a lot are Little Navy, Water Margin, Journey to the West and military weapons. My father will tell me the story of the cigarette brand, as well as the knowledge of various tanks, artillery and warships. Usually, I copy the paintings according to the printed pictures in the cigarette brand.
I am very impressed that I am going to primary school. There is a new primary school at the intersection of No. 29 Gaolan Road and Ruijin Second Road. My father took me to the new school to sign up. The teacher thought I was under age, so he persuaded my father to take me there to study next year. My father was angry: "My child is very smart. You can answer anything you ask. Why can't you start school early?"
The teacher refused: "There is an age requirement for admission."
My father sent me to a newly established Chenghuai Private Primary School to study. Chenghuai Private Second Primary School is located at the intersection of Ruijin Second Road and Huaihai Middle Road. His father did not think there was anything wrong with private schools. He supported the establishment of private schools.
The father said: "Children, learn knowledge early and be sensible. Learning cannot be left behind."
I did not lag behind my classmates because of my young age, and my grades have always been good after entering school. Since then, I have always been one year younger than my classmates. Classmates are almost all cattle, but I am the only tiger.
My father sometimes escorted me to a private elementary school. Passing by No. 29 Gaolan Road would point at the newly built elementary school and scolded resentfully: "Here was a bad guy who lived here. I fought him and he lost."
I remember these words, but I do nt understand who lived here before?
Later, when I grew up, I checked some information and found out that many famous Kuomintang generals such as Wei Lihuang and Wang Yaowu had lived on Gaolan Road.
Wei Lihuang was the commander-in-chief of the Communist Party of Northeast China and the highest general of the Chinese army in the Liaoshen Campaign. His father had participated in the battle of Liao and Shen, and of course he was no stranger to Wei Lihuang. Wei Lihuang once lived on this 29th.
Gaolan Road in Shanghai seems to have something to do with Shenyang. The Spanish-style architectural building No. 1 Gaolan Road was once the residence of Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si who came to Shanghai secretly in December 1935. During his stay in Shanghai, Zhang Xueliang had met Yang Hucheng, Li Du, Du Chongyuan and others.
After the Revolution of 1911 in 1911, Shenyang became the capital ruled by the warlord Zhang Zuolin.
In 1923, Shenyang officially established the Fengtian Municipal Office, and Shenyang also appeared in the city for the first time.
In 1929, Zhang Xueliang changed "Fengtian City" to "Shenyang City" after the "Northeastern flag change".
Zhang Xueliang and Shenyang have an indissoluble bond. When Japanese imperialism launched the "September 18 Incident" in 1931, Shenyang was invaded, and "Shenyang City" was changed to "Fengtian City" again. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, "Fengtian City" restored the name "Shenyang City". Until November 2, 1948, Shenyang was officially liberated.
In my childhood, I spent a lot of time at the door of Zhang Gongguan. My children and I often play games there, race, roller skates and roller hoops.
Recalling the footprints left by my childhood, we naturally cannot forget the people and things of Zhang Gongguan and Zhang Xueliang. For a period of time, due to special reasons for my work, I often went in and out of the former Zhang Mansion. Naturally, I often care about the city with the same name.
The 22nd Middle School I studied in Shanghai was just across the wall from Zhang Gongguan. The teaching building is just south of Zhanggongguan. During the class, you can see the garden of Zhanggongguan. The middle school I attended went south again, just across Xiangshan Road, where Sun Yat-sen's former residence was. Later, Sun Yat-sen's former residence was renovated, and the south-facing gate of the middle school was closed, and it was changed to No. 37, Sinan Road, facing west.
That area is also where my memories of my youth are still fresh.
In my home, you can see the classrooms and playgrounds of my middle school branch by opening the east window.
On the 16th, opposite the gate of my house, is a cathedral. My sister and I often go to the cathedral to play. In my childhood, I used to catch butterflies, grasshoppers and crickets in the church lawn flowers. After liberation, religious activities have ceased here, but I have known since childhood that Chinese people have temples and foreigners have churches. The gods in heaven are also divided into Chinese and foreign.
This cathedral has a bell tower, and the round roof is unified to the top. My sister and I often lift our necks and look up.
There are golden crosses on the spires and tops of the peacock blue. We often count the pointed arches on the roof, 1, 2, 3, 4 ... There are nine golden drum domes. The plane in the hall is a cross arrangement, with small windows on the main thick wall, yellow brick on the wall, and a large chandelier on the ceiling.
It was not until later that we knew that this was a Byzantine building, a typical Russian Orthodox church, built in 1934.

Most of my time is spent in the garden of my house.
I catch butterflies, bees, and crickets in the garden, and sometimes dig earthworms to play and watch earthworms dig earth. The magical nature opened a new world to me.
In the garden, I often see many birds flying around, jumping on the steps for a while, and flying on the treetops for a while.
The birds are so small and exquisite, lively and beautiful, they always sing songs happily together, full of intimacy and love between each other.
I sometimes stare blankly at the birds that stop on the treetops or steps. Hi, these birds will make people crazy! Look at their small heads, small tails, and small pointed mouths and small claws. How lovely!
I can catch butterflies, crickets, and even bees, but I can't catch birds. Therefore, I want to take the good things for my own selfishness, and always disturb me. My bird cage has already been made, but it has been empty on the balcony for several months.
Later, my brother helped me. He placed a bamboo basket with peanuts on the concrete floor and supported it with a chopstick. The chopsticks were tied with a rope. We took the rope and hid behind the door. There are bread crumbs under the bamboo sticks.
The birds are coming, the birds are attracted by these bread crumbs, but the clever birds are jumping around outside the bamboo sticks, sometimes looking up and looking around until they think it is safe to enter the bamboo stick As a result, in addition to those clever birds who fled while we were pulling the rope, we still caught a little bird.
How good this method is, but why didn't I think of it earlier? But that s okay, have nt I already learned? I can use this method to catch many birds in the future.
After I caught the bird, it was as happy as a hunter who used to catch rabbits and suddenly killed a tiger.
I quickly used it to put the empty bird cage for several months, blew away the dust from the bird cage, opened the cage door, and invited the bird in with respect.
I used two small tin boxes to prepare the water and rice dishes for the birds. In the middle of the bird cage, I also deliberately traversed a branch with small leaves. On the go, and no longer have to find food to eat and drink, looking for water to drink, as long as the bird needs, I can satisfy everything.
I looked at the bird in the cage. I was so happy. I have never looked at the bird's small head, small tail, small pointed mouth and small claws so carefully. It can be said that at the time, I felt like I was the happiest child in the world.
But wherever I want it, the bird simply ignores the optimal and generous hospitality that I have arranged for it, and it just bumps into the hole of the bird cage all the time! When I was really tired, I rested for a while, my head, neck, and breasts gasped for a while. After a while, the bird started desperately hitting the hole in the bird cage. The baby also bleeds.
"Why are you desperately hitting the bird cage? Am I not good to you?" I said to the bird.
The bird ignored me, flapping vigorously.
I sighed: "What a pity, you are going to be killed like this!" The bird continued to thrash.
I sighed: "What a pity, you are going to be killed like this!" The bird continued to thrash.
"It's to break through the cage and find freedom." My brother said to me.
"Don't I give it freedom? It eats, drinks, and has sunshine, and it doesn't have to worry about hunger or wind and rain. What's wrong with it?" I said.
"However, you deprived it of the joy of living in a collective and the right to fly freely in the blue sky!"
My brother stared at the poor bird and answered me.
"Then it must be killed now?"
"Probably, because freedom is more precious than enjoyment." My brother looked at me and said in a pleading tone: "Let's let it go, I really shouldn't help you put it in this cage."
"No! I won't let it go. If it really wants to be free, it should figure it out for itself." I still don't want to let go of the birds.
The brother sighed: "Unless the bird can insist on living to the day when the cage is completely rotten."
The bird was still desperately crashing into the hole of the bird cage, and my eyes widened as its feathers fell down, and some flew out of the bird cage, and was blown away by the wind.
Every time the bird fluttered, my heart hurt. Finally, my heart softened. I opened the cage door, caught the bird in the palm of my hand, and stroked it gently with my hand. To be precise, I was not just out For sympathy, I was infected by its spirit of freedom and fear of death. I never thought that a bird would have such a great personality.
Suddenly, the bird broke free of my hand, flew away suddenly, and flew back to the big tree in the garden. The bird pressed its small breast tightly against the branch, and the little head turned around. The alert eyes looked around, and finally saw that there was no danger, so he suddenly flew to the eaves, and quickly flew into the flock of birds. The flock of birds made a squeak, maybe welcome Its victory is back!
I am very surprised, just now the exhausted bird, why suddenly became so spirited and agile?
The elder brother said: "I have read a sentence like this in a book: 'Only people who live in prison know the joy of liberation and liberation and have the power to reinvigorate their spirits.' Right. "
I nodded. Then he threw the empty bird cage into the corner of the wall. The bird cage fell apart, and I never caught a bird again.
