Agarwood
In the past, there was a Brahmin monk
Gesang in ancient Tianzhu. He went into the sea to collect agarwood. Agarwood
is also known as agarwood, swallow mouth incense, Penglai incense, dense
incense, zhilan incense, green cinnamon incense, etc.
Agarwood comes from the Daphne family. Wood
and resin are used for joinery and incense. It is black and fragrant, and the
fat condenses into lumps. It can sink into water, so it is called
"agarwood".
Agarwood is an elegant and rare fragrance.
It has been ranked first among all fragrances since ancient times. Unlike
sandalwood, agarwood is not a kind of wood, but a solid condensate
"knotted" by a special type of fragrant tree that is a mixture of oil
and wood components.
After many years, Gesang collected a load
of agarwood. Carry it home and sell it in the market.
The agarwood collected by Gesang is as
black as black glaze. There is a simple and long-lasting fragrance that
continuously seeps out from the agarwood and floats in the air. The most
special thing is that the agarwood is very heavy, far beyond the ordinary wood
and stone.
Because agarwood was so expensive, no one
came to buy it for a while. Many days have passed and it still cannot be sold.
Gesang was very tired and distressed inside.
Seeing someone selling charcoal, the deal
was completed in a blink of an eye. Gesang had an idea: It would be better to
burn the charcoal to make charcoal and sell it quickly.
Gesang then burned the agarwood into
charcoal and sold it on the market, but it was not worth half a cart of
charcoal.
The crow Betty perched on a branch saw what
Gesang had experienced. Crow Betty opened her voice and sang the song
"Expectation":
Gesang,
Gesang, you are too stupid,
Spend
countless efforts to collect agarwood,
But
they don’t understand the precious value of agarwood,
Burn
agarwood into charcoal and sell it.
Gesang,
Gesang, you should reflect,
You
don’t have to have too many expectations in life,
Ignorance
will disappoint expectations,
A
wise man only does what he can do.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose.
