Old man Lavani chatted with Agudengba about the magical Gurkha knife, which is the national knife of Nepal. The old man Lavani talked about the history, function and glory of Nepal's national sword, and also talked about the manufacturing process of Nepal's national sword.

From this, the old man Lavani talked about Nepal’s exquisite metal manufacturing craftsmanship.

He said that the National Museum of Nepal has many treasures in its collection, including many ancient metal Buddha statues and Buddha statues made with special craftsmanship.

In the ancient legends of Nepal, there are many names that we are familiar with, such as Sakyamuni Buddha, Shiva, Manjushri, Vishnu, etc. We can also know a little bit about the stories behind them.

The Lantern Buddha is considered to be one of the earliest Buddhas in the South Asian subcontinent, earlier than the historical Sakyamuni Buddha and foretelling the arrival of Sakyamuni Buddha. He is sometimes equated with Samantabhadra Tathagata, the "primordial Buddha." Worship of the Buddha has been popular among Nepali Buddhists since around the 17th century, as it is believed to be the patron saint of merchants and associated with giving alms. A 19th-century A.D. Buddha has a body that resembles a basket. Because the large, hollow torso is wrapped in cloth and ornaments, it can hide a person who imitates the Buddha in religious processions. The Buddha is shown making the "Fearless Seal" with his right hand, which is the gesture of assurance, and the "Wish Seal" with his left hand, which is the gesture of giving. The statue is decorated with a brilliantly patterned five-peaked crown, reflecting the influence of Tantric Mahayana Buddhism.

Guanyin Bodhisattva is one of the most frequent companions of Buddha and is particularly popular in Nepal. He is popular as a benevolent deity who refuses to achieve nirvana until all sentient beings are saved. He is thus shown as a gentle and compassionate god. Guanyin Bodhisattva has many different forms in Nepal, and Ruyilun Guanyin is an important one among the many Bodhisattvas. A 20th-century Avalokitesvara Guanyin standing on a lotus seat, flanked by kneeling attendants. His right hand is raised to make the "wishing seal", a gesture of giving, and his left hand is raised above his head, holding a wish-fulfilling The branches and leaves of the sacred tree.

Old Lavani said to Agudengba: Among female gods, Tara Bodhisattva, who has many forms, is the most popular female god in Nepal. Tara Bodhisattva has many different forms, among which Green Tara is said to be the incarnation of Princess Wencheng, White Tara is said to be the incarnation of Princess Chizun of Nepal and Saptalochani Tara. She immutably holds up a blue lotus, a symbol of constancy.

Tara Bodhisattva sits on a lotus seat, with her right hand making a "wish seal", symbolizing great generosity, and her left hand making a gesture of assurance. As an emanation of Buddha Amitabha, she is accompanied by two attendants under a crown with a seated image of Buddha Avatar. She wore large earrings, a necklace with many gems and other decorative jewelry.

"Padmapani" is the most popular Buddhist deity in Nepal. People in Nepal usually call him the Lotus Hand Bodhisattva. Under the cover of the crown with the five-direction Buddha image of Vairocana, he stood on a double lotus seat, accompanied by exquisite poems, with his right hand stretched out in the "wish seal", which is the gesture of giving, and his left hand raised Holding a lotus, it is the most important of all Guanyin Bodhisattvas. He is a god of infinite mercy who shares in human suffering. Therefore, he is shown as a gentle and compassionate figure.

The future Buddha is Maitreya Buddha. Maitreya has the attributes of both a Bodhisattva and a human Buddha, although he has not yet become a Buddha and is believed to have passed through the previous life of a Bodhisattva in Tusita Heaven in preparation for his descent to earth as a human body. In Nepal, decorated Maitreya Buddha often sits in the "pralambapadasan" pose and performs Dharma Mudra, the gesture of turning the wheel of Dharma. His hair was made into a crown, and he wore a crown on his head. The entire background and the sides of the stele are full of gorgeous patterns.

Old Lavani told Agudengba the story of Kathmandu and Manjushri very emotionally. He said that as the original Buddha of wisdom, Manjushri Bodhisattva can see the Chinese personality.

Mount Wutai in China is the monastery of Manjushri Bodhisattva, which is found in Mahayana scriptures. Mahayana Buddhism emphasizes that all sentient beings can become Buddhas, and all practices should focus on self-interest and altruism, which is the way of "good people". Manjushri Bodhisattva is the left side attendant of Sakyamuni Buddha, specializing in wisdom, and is also known as Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, the right side attendant in charge of "reason". In addition, Vairocana Tathagata, Manjushri Bodhisattva, and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva are revered as the "Three Saints of Huayan". According to legend, Manjushri Bodhisattva’s teaching center is in Mount Wutai, Shanxi Province.

Old Lavani said: Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia with a long history, culture and ancient legends. We know from folk mythology that in the ancient times when chaos first emerged, the Kathmandu Valley was a large lake surrounded by mountains. In the center of the lake grew a strange lotus, emitting an awe-inspiring brilliance. Believers from around came to pray around the lake.

One day, Manjushri Bodhisattva went there from Mount Wutai in China. He discovered this place, split the surrounding mountains, and the lake water flowed along the canyon. Manjushri Bodhisattva asked some people who went with him to settle there and form a town. The place where the lotus flowers bloomed became a hill in the center of the town, and people built a monkey temple on this hill.

In the 16th century AD, the king of the Lichavi dynasty built a three-eaves pagoda-style building with a big tree in the city center. He called it "Gasda Mandar", which means "Independence" in Sanskrit. "Wood Temple", or "Wood and Temple", later shortened to "Kathmandu", which means "Single Wood Building" in Nepali. The name Kathmandu stuck. It's a pity that this single-wooden temple has become a legend in the long history.

Old Lavani said:

The legends of Kathmandu and Lhasa are similar. Both were formerly a lake. The difference is that Manjushri opened up Kathmandu, while Lhasa filled the lake with stones from sheep's backs. Because there is such an ancient legend, Buddhist believers in Nepal have special feelings for Mount Wutai, where Manjushri Bodhisattva is located. They will go to Mount Wutai to worship, clasping their hands together and never leaving their chests to express their admiration for Mount Wutai and Manjushri Bodhisattva. In ancient times, many eminent monks from Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Nepal worshiped Mount Wutai.

The old man Lavani said: Among the outstanding representatives of Nepalese metal craftsmanship, there is a typical sculpture showing Manjushri Bodhisattva and his concubine. Manjushri Bodhisattva is sitting cross-legged on the lotus seat, and his consort, Concubine Ming, is sitting on the left side of his knees. The hands of this multi-headed, multi-armed figure are shown holding different objects, a sword and the Prajna Sutra, the book of transcendent wisdom, two objects each with its own characteristics. The entire background and the edges of the center pillar behind the statue are covered with brilliant patterns.

Old Lavani and his daughter sang a song called "Manjusri's Wisdom Mantra".

The main idea of the lyrics is:

Manjushri Mahasattva,

The peacock and lion are for riding.

Holding a sharp sword in the right hand cuts off worries,

The green lotus on the left brings out the best in each other.

Poisonous dragons and fierce beasts lie in the cool air,

Eliminate sin, obstacles and suffering.

Knot the top into a five-knot bun to know that power is present.

Wisdom, wisdom and harmony.

The rain of flowers brings good luck,

Tianxiangbao’s wisdom penetrates the heart.

Please wield your sword and kill my fool,

All sentient beings take refuge and cut off their bad karma.
