Mythical white
tiger
Old Lavani rode the ferocious-looking white tiger and took Agudenba to his
home. Agudemba rode a donkey and followed the old man Lavani.
Agudenba looked at the Bangladeshi white tiger in front of him, and his
heart was beating fast. After all, walking in front of him was a ferocious
white tiger!
Why do white tigers appear in the world? Agudemba didn’t understand. But he
knew that the white tiger was one of the four legendary beasts hailed by the
Chinese. The white tiger, Qinglong, Suzaku and Xuanwu are known as the four
ancient mythical beasts. The white tiger is the incarnation of the god of war.
He is also a god of killing. The white tiger symbolizes might and
domineering and the majesty of the army.
Agudengba said to the old man Lavani: White tigers often appear in Chinese
folklore. Perhaps because of their unique appearance, white tigers have been
endowed with many mythological stories and symbolic meanings. But why does the
white tiger in myth and legend really exist in real life? Is the white tiger's
fighting power as capable of crushing all beasts as in myths and legends?
Old Lavani said to the curious Agudengba:
Let us enter the world of White Tiger together today. In real life, the
white tiger is actually a mutated species from the Bengal tiger. The Bangladesh
tiger has very powerful hunting skills and deterrence. It will attack any
living animal that appears in front of it. Even adult Asian elephants will
detour when it is eating.
The white tiger is a variant of the Bengal tiger that is different in color
from the ordinary Bengal tiger, with a pink nose, white to cream fur, and
black, gray or chocolate stripes. A white tiger's eyes are usually blue, but
may be green or amber. Bangladeshi white tigers are often misunderstood as
suffering from albinism, but they are not. A truly albinistic tiger will not
have stripes. The Bangladeshi white tiger has normal black or dark brown
stripes. White tigers appear white due to the lack of red and yellow pigments.
This is caused by a mutation in one of their genes encoding pigments. When the
gene mutates further, the stripes of white tigers will gradually fade away and
become the snow tiger color type. The mutated gene is recessive, so even if
both parents carry the white recessive allele, there is only a one-quarter
chance of producing a white tiger. Only the Bengal tiger is known to possess
the recessive gene of the white tiger.
Mr. Lavani continued: White tigers can breed at any time of the year, but
the most common time for breeding is from November to April. In China, most
cubs are born in the summer. The gestation period is 96 to 111 days. White
tigers are solitary animals and their only long-term relationship is between
mother and child.
Old Lavani said again:
White tigers eat mainly meat. It usually approaches and ambush its prey in
forests or tall grass. They bite their prey directly into the throat to kill
it, and drag the carcass hundreds of meters away to a sheltered place to feed.
The white tiger has huge jumping ability and can jump 6 to 8 meters. Jumps of
half distance are easier. White tigers are good swimmers, and water usually
does not impede their movement. White tigers can easily swim across rivers up
to 6-8 kilometers wide. White tigers can also climb, using their retractable
claws and powerful legs. But the chance of a white tiger appearing is only one
in ten thousand.
Old Lavani told Agudengba a story about the white tiger:
An albino wild male Bangladesh tiger was discovered in India, and the
locals named the white tiger "Mohan". In order to breed more white
tigers, the Indians let Mohan mate with normal orange tigers, but they gave
birth to three litters of cubs, all of which were orange. It is speculated that
the orange tiger, which may be female, does not carry the white recessive gene.
Later, the Indians let Mohan mate with one of his daughters. Later, the
cubs they gave birth to were either white or orange.
Old man Lavani said with a smile: Perhaps all the white tigers that
appeared later were descendants of Mohan. There are probably more than 200
white tigers around the world.
Because the white tiger is a mutant species of the Bangladesh tiger, its
strength, speed, and size have been greatly improved. White tigers carry a
white recessive gene. These white recessive genes are only carried by a small
number of Bengal tigers and do not exist in other types of tigers. The white
tiger's combat power can defeat all lions and tigers, so the white tiger is
worthy of being one of the four mythical beasts.
Old Lavani sang a song
"Understanding" that praises spiritual harmony:
In this complex world,
Each of us is busy,
In pursuit of one's goals,
Sometimes I stop,
Feel the little happiness in
life,
Small happiness may not be
conspicuous,
But it warms my heart
deeply,
That means someone can read
you.
In the difficult journey of
life,
You will always encounter
all kinds of people and things,
When I was hunting in the
woods,
Saw an injured white tiger,
He seemed lonely and
helpless,
Staring at me with his teeth
bared in fear,
To prevent me from taking
advantage of danger and harming him,
I understand the pain in his
heart.
I gave water to the injured
white tiger,
I bandaged his wounds
tenderly,
We don’t need fancy words,
All it takes is a sincere
heart,
White Tiger felt lonely and
helpless,
But I stayed by his side,
White Tiger understands that
I am saving him,
There were actually tears in
his eyes.
White Tiger followed me back
home,
He also made me feel warm,
We will listen to each
other,
We understand the union of
souls,
I spoke to him from the
bottom of my heart,
Whether it is joy or
sadness,
I show myself truly,
We understand each other.
This is my relationship with
Bai Hu,
This is a spiritual fit,
A kind of silent and
affectionate understanding,
We can all feel each other,
In this complex world,
Seeing themselves in each
other's eyes,
We found love in each
other's hearts,
Love comes from the
resonance of the soul.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fables makes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
