God's gift
Walk into the traces of human life, explore the
psychological space of human nature, and have spiritual dialogues across time
and space. Religious beliefs divide human beings into different races and even
form different national systems. People are doing it, and God is watching, and
good things will come. , evil will be punished, seems to have become a common
mantra and creed among people.
Agudengba met the old man Lavani by chance, and what they exchanged and discussed the most was their belief in God.
Old Lavani told Agudumba a story about God, "The Gift of God":
There is an orphan named Clark in Bangladesh. His
parents died young and there is no one else in the family except his brother
and sister-in-law. His brother Mark was born to his stepmother and was cruel to
him. Clark had to be busy at home: feeding livestock, farming, and doing
housework, but he had neither enough food nor warmth to wear all day long. Mark
and his wife spent the whole day cozying up, eating, drinking and enjoying
themselves.
Soon, in order to get rid of the burden, Mark found a
wife for his brother. The two brothers separated and lived their own lives.
Before the separation, Mark bullied his younger brother and secretly
transferred the property left by his parents, and he also selected the land.
Clark didn't say anything about this.
As a result, Mark inherited almost all of his parents'
inheritance, ate well, dressed well, and started a business. In order to
support his family, Clark worked hard outside every day.
Clark became poorer and poorer, and Mark became richer
and richer. Within a few years, Clark pawned all the land to Mark and borrowed
a lot of debt from the villagers. For this reason, he had to work hard every
day, otherwise his family would have to run out of food.
The Mark family built a new tile-roofed house, bought
cattle, and bought a car. His wife was always dressed in jewels.
It is often said that the richer a person is, the
greedier and stingier he becomes. This is exactly what happened to Mark, who
dreamed of bringing all the wealth in the world into his own home. He was so
stingy that even dogs could not find food in his house, and beggars never came
to his door.
Clark is just the opposite. He is generous, kind,
benevolent, and simple. He never fights or harms himself at the expense of
others. He often does good things for the people in the village. Everyone in
the village likes him, and everyone talks about him.
One day, Clark went to cut the grass. On his way home
at noon, he passed by a pond. He wanted to take a bath in the pond, so he put
the grass on the bank and jumped into the water. At this time, there was no one
around the pond, and the lotus flowers in the pond were in bloom. He thought: I
will pick some lotus flowers and bring them to the temple to worship the gods.
When he was about to reach out to pick lotus flowers, he suddenly saw a lotus
bud shining like gold, so he picked it out of curiosity. As soon as the bud
reached Clark's hands, the bright petals unfolded immediately. This is not an
ordinary lotus, but a golden flower. Clark was very surprised. He didn't
understand what was going on and didn't know what to do.
Just then, an extraordinary handsome man emerged from
the water. He walked up to Clark and said: Clark, please give me this golden
flower?
Clark stared at this strange man with wide eyes and
asked: Who are you? Why should I give it to you?
The extraordinarily handsome man said: I am the water
god of this pond. A golden flower blooms here every day, which is to worship the
gods. Please give it to me! As he spoke, he stretched out his hand.
Clark returned the flower to him and said, "I'm
sorry, I didn't know it was like this. You can take it." After speaking,
Clark clasped his hands together and bowed his head piously.
Seeing that he was so honest and honest, the Water God
showed his true self and said to him: I like your honest and contented spirit
very much. I can satisfy any of your wishes. Now tell me what you want.
After seeing the true image of the Water God, Clark was
so excited that he almost forgot everything. He murmured: Lord, you know
everything in the hearts of people in the world. What do I want? Whatever you
give me, it's all I want.
The Water God patted him on the shoulder with
satisfaction and said: You are really a rare good boy, but you still have to
say it and I will definitely satisfy you.
Clark put his hand on his heart and said: Lord, please
keep my family in a happy mood forever. I will come to your temple to burn
incense all my life.
"Go back, your wish will be fulfilled."
After saying this, the Water God disappeared. Clark seemed to suddenly wake up
from a dream. He looked around. The pond was still the same pond, and the lotus
flowers were still blooming there, but there was no trace of the Water God and
the Golden Flower.
Confused, Clark carried the original harvest of grass
and went home.
Since then, Clark seemed to have some magical power.
Whenever he stretched out his hand to do something, he would get four times,
five times, or even ten times the harvest. As a result, the family's wealth
became more and more, and no matter how he used it, it would never be less. In
this way, a few months later, his family had become very wealthy.
Clark not only paid off the debts he borrowed from
loan sharks, but also gave a lot of food and clothing to the poor. Even people
from other villages came to him for help.
When Mark saw his brother's sudden prosperity, he
became suspicious, thinking that Clark must have made some kind of windfall, or
that he had stolen his father's money before and only used it to enjoy it now,
but he was still kept in the dark.
One day, he came to Clark's house to find out.
Mark said to Clark, answer me honestly, did you get
ill-gotten gains? Or did you hide your father's savings in the first place? How
did you become rich?
The simple Clark didn't know his brother's intention,
so he truthfully told him the whole story of meeting the water god.
After listening to his brother's words, Mark hesitated
for a few words and then walked away. Along the way, he thought, I will go to
the pond tomorrow and I must ask the water god for a lot of treasures.
At noon the next day, Mark came to the pond and there
was no one around. He jumped into the pond to look for lotus flowers. Sure
enough, he saw a Jin Beilei, and his eyes immediately glowed green, oh! Clark
has a point. He couldn't wait to rush over and pinch off the buds. As soon as
he cut off the stem, the water god appeared and said to him: "Marc, this
flower is for the gods, give it back to me."
Mark took a look and saw that it was the water god
Clark was talking about. However, he had no piety towards the Water God in his
heart. All he thought about was God's gift. He secretly wondered: What should I
ask of him?
Then the Water God said again: "Quick, give me
the flower."
"I can't give it to you for free, you have to
give me a gift." Mark said with a roll of his eyes.
The Water God was disgusted with his greedy attitude,
but still said: "Tell me, what do you want?"
Mark quickly made up his mind and said, "I need
that kind of magic. I can get whatever I want."
The Water God was stunned for a moment and said,
"Okay, I promise you. Come on, give me the flowers."
"Take it." Mark gave the flower to the water
god. In the blink of an eye, the Water God and the Golden Flower disappeared.
Mark got carried away and walked home dancing. As soon
as he got home, he called his wife out and said, "We won't have to be so
busy anymore. I have asked the water god for magic."
His wife looked at him, unconvinced.
Mark said: "I want a bag of cookies."
The cookies came immediately, and the couple smiled
happily and munched them with relish. From then on, no matter what Mark wanted,
he could get it, including jewelry, clothes, houses, etc., but he became more
greedy and stingy.
One evening, Mark's wife wore a fur coat to Clark's
house, wanting to show off in front of others. When I got home, it was already
dark. Sitting on the balcony, Mark found that his wife looked dark and fat in
the dark night. He couldn't help but trembled and thought, could this be the
devil? Because he had the magic given to him by the water god, he could get
whatever he wanted, so his wife suddenly became a devil.
Seeing her walking towards him, Mark thought again: Is
she here to catch me?
The devil caught him immediately.
Mark was so frightened that he couldn't say anything.
He thought, it's over now, it will have to eat me.
The devil really swallowed him up.
The greedy Mark became the prey of the devil, and his
wife also became the devil.
Later, Clark distributed all the property that Mark
received from the water god to the poor.
Old Lavani smiled and asked Agudemba: "Smart Mr.
Agudemba, after listening to this story, what will you think about God and the
Clark and Mark brothers?"
Agudengba thought for a while and then sang a song
"God's Gift":
A kind-hearted and upright
person,
It is inevitable that there
will be regrets in life.
Often bullied into poverty,
But still keep doing the
worthwhile things.
Do your best for one thing,
Let your family always be
happy,
This is more valuable than
winning wealth,
Thank God for protecting such
people.
People who are ugly and
greedy,
Greedy desires never end,
I often fall into the mud due
to selfishness,
Losing family members and
destroying oneself.
They pray to God for one
thing only;
Insatiable greed leads to
evil thoughts,
Benefiting yourself at the
expense of others will not be tolerated by heaven and earth.
The oracle tells people that
good and evil will be punished.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fables makes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
