Monkey God Hanuman
The ten-headed demon king Ravana used his
evil plan to kidnap Sita, the wife of Rama, the prince of Saro. The protective
god Emperor Zetian did not come to help, but continued to examine how Rama
would deal with the dilemma.
At that time, brothers Rama and Lakshmana
searched the forest but could not find Sita. Finally, they saw the dying Garuda
King. The king of Garuda, who was resting in the forest at that time, stopped
Ravana from robbing Sita. After a fierce fight, Garuda King was severely
injured by Ravana due to his old age and frailty, and fell to the ground.
Garuda told Rama that Ravana kidnapped Sita and flew south, possibly to Lanka.
After saying this, the Garuda King died. Brother Rama buried the bird king and
set off to the south.
Agudengba said to the donkey Mahu: Do you
know that there is a Sun Wukong in China?
Donkey Mahu said: I know, Sun Wukong is a
magical monkey.
Agudengba said to the donkey Mahu:
Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, the great sage
with great supernatural powers, made great contributions to protect Monk Tang
from studying in the West, killing demons and fighting demons along the way. He
was resourceful and brave, and made great contributions. The Western Heaven
they are going to is actually the country of India, China’s southwest neighbor.
In fact, the prototype of Sun Wukong comes from Aryan folklore. When some
Aryans migrated to ancient India, legends about divine monkeys were recorded in
ancient Indian books. After Rama's wife Sita was captured by the ten-headed
demon king Ravana, the Aryan monkey god came to Rama's aid.
Agudumba began to tell the story about the
Aryan monkey god Hanuman:
Brothers Rama and Lakshman traveled all the
way across mountains and rivers in search of Sita, who was captured by the
ten-headed demon king Ravana, but they did not know where the Lanka Island
mentioned by Garuda King was.
One day, they came to Lishe Muga Mountain and
met with the Monkey King Miaoxiang on the Monkey Mountain. They told him about
the sins of the Ten-headed Demon King and asked him to help find out where
Lanka Island was and help them defeat the Ten-headed Demon King. .
Agudengba said: When the brothers Rama and
Lakshmana came to the Monkey Mountain where the Monkey King Miaoxiang lived,
the Monkey King Miaoxiang had just been taken away from the throne of the
Monkey Kingdom by his brother Paulin.
In the beginning, Miaoxiang's brother Paulin
was the monkey king. Once, Miaoxiang and his brother Paulin chased the devil
together. Paulin chased him into a cave. Miaoxiang waited at the entrance of
the cave for a year, but Paulin did not come out of the cave. And there was a
lot of blood coming out of the hole. Miaoxiang thought his brother was dead, so
he blocked the entrance of the cave with stones, returned to the capital and
ascended the throne. Unexpectedly, Paulin came back after killing the demon. He
expelled Miaoxiang and took away Miaoxiang's wife.
The current genius is only followed by four
ministers and friends, among whom is the monkey god Hanuman, the son of the
wind god Vayuna.
After brothers Rama and Lashman introduced
their experiences to each other and the monkey king Miaoxiang, they formed an
alliance. Rama promised to help Miaoxiang recover, and Miaoxiang also took out
Sita's scarf that he picked up and promised to do so. Help Rama find Sita.
Now, with the support of Rama and the
Lakshman brothers, Miaoxiang returns to the Monkey Kingdom to challenge
Pauline. The two brothers were inseparable from each other.
Rama saw that the brothers Miaoxiang and
Bolin looked like twins, and their images were too similar. He asked Miaoxiang
to wear a wreath around his neck as a mark of identification. In this way, Rama
shot with an arrow the Bolin who did not wear a garland around his neck.
After Miaoxiang regained the throne in the
Monkey Kingdom, he gathered an army of monkeys to search for Sita's
whereabouts.
At this time, Shambhati, the younger brother
of Garuda, found Rama and thanked him for burying his brother Garuda. Shambhati
told Rama and Lakshman brothers that he saw Ravana kidnapped Sita and flew to
Lanka Island, where Sita was imprisoned in the Ashoka Forest.
But who can cross the sea and reach Lanka
Island to find out the reality?
Monkey King Miaoxiang thanked Rama and the
Lakshman brothers for allowing him to regain the throne of the Monkey King. He
also had a sense of justice and had long heard about the lawlessness of the ten
demon kings, and he hated them in his heart.
Monkey King Miaoxiang said: Only the monkey
Hanuman, the son of the wind god, can handle this task.
The Monkey King called the divine monkey
Hanuman and sent him to Lanka Island to find out the whereabouts of Sita.
Agudemba said to the donkey:
The ten-headed king Ravana was the king of Lanka,
which is today’s Sri Lanka. The Indian narrative poem "Ramayaya"
records the story of Rama defeating Ravana, the demon king of Karan Island,
with the help of the monkey god Hanuman, the son of the wind god.
The active role of the monkey god Hanuman in
the story is just like that of Sun Wukong in Journey to the West. Since the
legend of this story existed before the birth of Buddha, generally speaking,
scholars believe that when Wu Cheng'en wrote Journey to the West in the Ming
Dynasty, he referred to the legend of Hanuman before creating Sun Wukong. There
are also these legends in Buddhist scriptures. Obviously, Sun Wukong in Journey
to the West evolved from the monkey god Hanuman.
Agudumba sang a sacred song "Monkey
Hanuman":
