Reincarnation of sati
The old donkey said to
Agudengba:
In the past, there was a
very terrible custom in India, that is, if the husband died, he would die.
During the cremation, the wife also has to jump in, and whether you jump or not
is up to you. You can choose to jump to express your love and loyalty, or you
don’t have to jump. Later, India outlawed it through legislation.
Agudumba asked: How did this
custom come into being?
Old Donkey said:
The first wife of Shiva, the
great god in Indian belief, was named Sati. Sati was the daughter of Taksha,
the highest god in Indian mythology. But Tuosha did not like Shiva, and later
his daughter threw herself into the fire and committed suicide. Shiva knew that
his wife Sati had committed suicide for him, so he burned down the heaven in
anger, and then wanted to destroy the world. This incident shocked the three
worlds.
In order to prevent Shiva
from destroying the world, Vishnu, the god of maintenance and protection of the
world, advised Shiva to calm down and promised him to reincarnate his wife
Sati. Therefore, during this period, Shiva practiced in the Himalayas.
At that time, Vishnu divided
Sati's body into 108 parts and scattered them all over the world. One of them
went to the Himalayas.
Ten thousand years after
Sati, the daughter of Tuosha, committed suicide in the fire, a baby girl was
born in a village in the Himalayas. Her father was Himachal, the mountain god
incarnated by the Himalayas. When the daughter of the mountain god came into
the world, Himachal named the child Parvati, and her nickname was Uma.
Sati was reincarnated as
Parvati, the daughter of Snow Mountain. Parvati was called the goddess of Snow
Mountain by the world. Uma is her other name in Buddhism.
Uma was born with gray-black
skin, which is said to be related to his last behavior in his previous life.
That's because the temperature of the divine fire burns the original skin into
charcoal. After reincarnation, the skin color will naturally not be as
beautiful as in the previous life.
In the previous life, Sati
threw herself into the divine fire and died. She loved her husband deeply, and
was also afraid that her husband would forget her appearance after her
reincarnation. Her love did not disappear with death. The soul of longing was
reincarnated into the current appearance of Uma.
The old man continued:
The little girl Uma, under
the guidance of teachers from the gods, studied diligently and gradually grew
up. One night, Uma had a dream.
In the dream, He was walking
in the forest. As he walked, He heard the sound of gurgling water, so Uma
walked towards the source of the sound.
After walking out of the
forest, He walked to the river, and there was a Brahmin priest standing by the
river. Just when Uma wanted to step forward and ask, the priest spoke:
"Daughter of the mountain god, your marriage in the next life has been
destined in the previous life, and Your husband is a ruthless and desireless
ascetic who stays naked no matter what kind of day he is, living a life of
spiritual suffering that ordinary people cannot endure. You are his only
antidote."
Just when Uma was still
wondering about everything the priest said and wanted to ask, Uma woke up from
her dream.
"A heartless ascetic?
Antidote?" Like a real dream, the priest's words have been deeply
imprinted in Uma's mind.
Early the next morning, Uma
told her father Himachal what she had dreamed about last night. After listening
to her father, a god appeared in his mind.
"Daughter, the ascetic
you described is none other than the Lord Shiva whom we worship." Himachal
told Uma.
"God Shiva? Isn't He
practicing in our mountains? Dad, can we go see Him?"
After hearing her father's
explanation, Uma was extremely happy and surprised for some reason, and she
just wanted to see Shiva immediately.
Himachal told Uma that if
you want to see Lord Shiva, you must have a pious heart and not disturb Shiva's
practice. Otherwise, even meeting him may be a fantasy. Listen to his father's
advice. , Uma also understood what she should do.
The old donkey said to
Agudengba:
This incident happened
10,000 years later, and Shiva had forgotten this relationship. But the Snow
Mountain Goddess still remembered Shiva. In order to be with Shiva, the Snow
Mountain Goddess found Kama, the God of Love, and asked for help from Kama, the
God of Love, to fulfill her love with Shiva.
After that, the 10,000-year
undying love of the Snow Mountain Goddess to Shiva was sung by Indians.
The old donkey sang a
popular local snowy folk song "Snow Mountain Goddess" to Agudengba:
In the majestic Himalayas,
The great god Shiva practices here.
Lord Shiva’s wife is called Sati.
Sati is the daughter of Lord Takshasa.
But Taksha did not like Shiva;
Sadie committed suicide by throwing herself into the fire.
Shiva burned the heavens in anger,
Then destroy the world.
This incident shocked Lord Vishnu,
He advised Shiva not to be angry.
Let him go to practice in the snowy mountains,
Promise to reincarnate Sati.
Ten thousand years after Sati burned himself on fire,
Sati is transformed into the daughter of the mountain god.
She is the snow mountain goddess Uma,
Parvati Himalayas.
The Snow Mountain Goddess still remembers Shiva,
Meditation can gain the love of God.
Uma found Kama, the god of love,
Calling on Cupid can help her.
Kama, the god of love, joins hands with the god of spring,
Finally reunited Shiva Uma.
Ten thousand years of undying love,
It has been sung by Indians for generations.
