The tragic saint
Agudengba
went to a temple at the invitation of the old donkey. Old Donkey took him to
watch a yoga performance in the temple. Unexpectedly, these yoga performers
were actually temple prostitutes. These temple prostitutes have a special name,
they are called "saints".
The
old donkey smiled and said to Agudumba: The religion of India is both the
religion of monks and the religion of dancing girls. This is an ancient tradition
in India. This bad habit has existed in Indian society for a long time. These
so-called Indian saints are girls from poor families. After they reach
adolescence, they are forced to sell themselves into monasteries and become sex
slaves of senior Hindu monks and Brahmin elders, so they are called "holy
girls".
Old
Donkey sighed: These low-status rural girls had to give up the traditional
marriage model when they were 10 years old, dedicate their life happiness to
the local gods, and perform religious ceremonies and pray for the villagers in
the village. As soon as they reach puberty, they are married into the monastery
during ceremonies and celebrations, and then spend the wedding night with the
monastery monks or elders.
Saints
usually live with their families and serve the monastery until they grow old.
Then, like the fate of European brothel madams, the older saints began to
retreat into the background to advise the next generation of saints.
In
India, "saint" is not a decent title. Although people are respectful
and fearful of them, they kowtow to the ground. However, everyone knows exactly
what role those high-ranking girls are playing. The so-called "Indian
saint" is neither a queen nor a female star, but a poor woman with the
most miserable fate. As long as the family has the conditions, who is willing
to send his own daughter away to be humiliated? This may sound awkward, but in
the final analysis, it is due to India’s ancient cultural traditions.
Agudemba was very surprised: According to
the so-called tradition, all "Indian saints" came from untouchable
families. They had just entered adolescence and were forced to sell themselves
to monasteries. In front of people, she has a glorious name to hide her shame -
a saint; behind her back, she is just a free "sex slave" of senior
Hindu monks and Brahmin elders. Therefore, a girl who enters a temple and
devotes herself to the gods is destined to sell her youth and body, and is also
destined to live a strange life without marriage. This kind of scandal cannot
be hidden from anyone, so why can it be passed down forever?
Old
Donkey said:
Currently,
many prostitutes in red-light districts such as Mumbai and Goa were once
"temple prostitutes". Various states in India enacted laws in the
1990s, declaring it illegal to organize girls to join "temple
prostitution." But in fact, the law has only allowed such activities to go
underground, especially in some areas of northern Karnataka, where this custom
is still carried out in secret. In some poor families, parents who favor sons
over daughters hope that sending away their daughters will bring good luck to
the family; on the other hand, they believe that their daughters will find
their own happiness by marrying gods.
Many
Indians believe that although the government has enacted various regulations to
prohibit "temple prostitution", legal departments in some areas still
turn a blind eye to this, and even secretly acquiesce in similar behaviors.
Nowadays, this bad habit has a tendency to move from underground to the front.
Agudemba
was speechless.
The
old donkey said to Agudengba: Every country has its own history, and every
nation has its own traditions. Different histories and different traditions
bring different ideologies and customs to fool the people in the name of gods.
Let the people live with the devil, and the world will never be clean.
Old
Donkey sang an impromptu song "Clean World":
In the name of God
The world that dominates all
things
Always makes people fascinated
But God is only in dreams
After waking up from the dream,
everything is empty
Haunting and looming ghosts
Kings and lords are all demons
wizard monk ghost incarnation
Believers pray for peace and
happiness
Burn incense and kowtow, spend
your life crazy
Helpless to blame the sins
committed in the past life
Reincarnation and hope for the
next life
Ignorance lingers in the
ignorant mind
Temple prostitutes can also be
worshiped as saints
People pursue a clean world
Extravagant hopes are far away
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fables makes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
