Sati commits suicide
Agudemba tells the love story of Sati
and Shiva to his donkey. This story is very tragic and has influenced
generations of people and has even been passed down to this day.
Agudenba said:
Sati's father Tuosha was snubbed by his
daughter Sati's husband Shiva at a banquet in the Holy Land. Tuosha was very
angry and planned to make Shiva feel even more humiliated in front of the gods.
Tuosha was aggrieved by Shiva's disdainful behavior. He held a banquet in the
holy place again, but did not invite Shiva and his daughter Sati to attend. For
this reason, Sati rode Shiva's white bull, protected by Shiva's servants, to
the banquet venue being held in Tuosha's palace. She wanted to seek an explanation
from her father Tuosha.
Agudenba said:
In fact, there is another important
reason why Takshasa is so dissatisfied with Shiva, and that starts with the
great god Brahma. Brahma created another woman, Shatarupa, from a part of his
own body. Shatarupa was a goddess who could transform into 100 beauties and was
also his daughter.
But after Brahma created Shatarupa, he
immediately fell in love with her and could not take his eyes off her. No
matter where he went, Brahma would look at her. Shatarupa felt very shy when he
saw his father peeping at him like this, so he had to avoid the eyes of his
father Brahma.
But wherever Shatarupa went, Brahma
grew a head until he had four heads, one in each direction, front, back, left
and right. Desperate, Shatarupa had no choice but to move upward to escape his
gaze. Unexpectedly, Brahma actually grew a fifth head from above his head.
Lord Shiva knew about this and thought
that Shatarupa was the daughter created by Brahma. It was inappropriate for a
father to fall in love with his own daughter, which was an act that insulted
the honor of God. Then, the great god Shiva opened his third eye, spewed out
the fire of destruction, and burned the fifth head of Brahma, so Brahma was
left with only four heads.
Because Brahma had a head destroyed by
Shiva, Daksha began to hate Shiva and only allowed people to worship the great
gods Brahma and Vishnu.
Daksha also decided not to let Lord
Shiva and Sati get married. However, after all kinds of obstructions, destiny
was inevitable and Sati married Shiva. This incident made Daksha hate Shiva
even more.
Agudumba said to his donkey: Shiva
burned the fifth head of Brahma. This was the main reason why Daksha hated
Shiva. Tuosha was treated coldly by Shiva at the banquet in the Holy Land,
which made Tuosha very angry. This was another reason why he hated Shiva.
Tuosha held the holy banquet this time to make Shiva feel humiliated in front
of the gods. So Shiva and Sati were not invited to attend.
In order to win the honor of her
husband Lord Shiva, Sati rode Shiva's white bull and went with her servants to
the banquet venue held by her father Tuosha.
As soon as Sadie arrived at the banquet
venue, her family members warmly and wholeheartedly welcomed Sadie back. But
her father Dasha was not so happy. As soon as he saw Sati, he said to his
daughter with contempt: "Oh? Let's see who is here? She is Shiva's most
cherished wife. Well, why didn’t you see your husband walking with you?”
Sadie was silent, but when she heard
her father's words, she felt extremely uncomfortable.
At this time, Sati saw that every god
present had their own assigned seats and their own sacrifices. Sadie was very
angry when she saw it, because she didn't see the seats they prepared for her
and her husband, and there was no way there would be any sacrifices for them.
Sadie saw every scene at the banquet,
showing such disrespect for her husband. Then he started shouting and scolding
the gods present:
"Brahma, although you are the head
of the gods, you offended the great god last time and had one of your heads
burned off by the great god. Have you forgotten?"
"Vishnu, you can be regarded as a
disciple taught by the great god Shiva. How can you still have a seat when the
master is not present? Do you still remember the teachings of the great
god?"
"Indra, your vajra was almost
destroyed by the divine fire of the third eye of Lord Shiva last time. As well
as these gods, aren't you afraid that the Lord will be angry because of this
and destroy the entire venue?"
In order to save her husband's face,
Sati began to warn the gods, and believed that the gods no longer paid
attention to her husband, or even respected her in their hearts. But the gods
did not disrespect Shiva, but they were so frightened that they could not say
anything when they thought about the consequences of Shiva's anger.
At the grand fire ceremony held by
Daksha, Sati said to her father Daksha angrily: "Anyone who slanders
others will go to hell. Because you are my father, my husband calls me Daksha's
daughter, but now I I feel humiliated and painful as a father like you, and I
want to abandon this body you gave me. Gods, please listen to my appeal. You
will all pay the due price for all the contempt you have for my husband. .”
At this time, after listening to Sati's
words, Tuosha began to curse his daughter:
"Your husband is an incarnation of
a demon, a god of destruction who violates the will of God. If I don't invite
him, I'm just doing justice for heaven! Since my dear daughter is back, please
ask your mother to help you prepare a place." Sacrifice, sit down and
enjoy yourself, otherwise go back to your husband!”
Hearing her father slandering the
person she loved so much, Sati shed angry tears and thought to herself: If I go
back like this and tell my husband everything that happened here, how can I
live with my head up in front of my husband, because I am the daughter of
Tuosha? .
The more Sati thought about it, the
sadder she became. Then she angrily said to Tasha and the gods with tears in
her eyes:
"Although you are my father, you
have insulted and slandered the person I love most! Lord Shiva sometimes calls
me the daughter of Takshasa, but today, your actions and words make me feel
that I am your daughter. It is an incomparable shame to me! As well as every
god present, you will all suffer divine condemnation and punishment together
with the man who was my father! You must pay for your foolish behavior of
slandering Lord Shiva. cost!"
After Sati finished speaking, she shed
tears and lowered her head in silence, praying silently: Lord Shiva, I have no
shame to go back to see you again. If there is another life, please choose me
as your wife again. After Sati finished her prayer, she ran towards the
feasting fire platform, jumped into the fire of the fire platform, and was swallowed
up by the divine fire.
The gods present were frightened by
Sati's behavior, and everyone was too intimidated to make any move.
The Shiva servants who followed Sati to
the banquet began to get angry and go crazy. Some of the servants screamed, and
some picked up knives and stabbed themselves fiercely. The whole banquet hall
suddenly started to wail and make noise, and the power was low. The weak gods
panicked and fled throughout the banquet hall.
Seeing this situation, Brahma, Vishnu
and others really did not dare to interfere in anything anymore, for fear of
being punished by Shiva again.
Several servants were filled with
anger. They picked up weapons and rushed towards Tuosha, hoping to destroy
Tuosha. But Tuosha had already been prepared, and the asuras who were ambushing
beside the banquet rushed towards Shiva's servants and killed them.
After a burst of killing, Shiva's
servants retreated steadily and hurriedly fled back to Kailasha from the
banquet hall.
Before the story of Sati's
self-immolation told by Agudenba to Donkey Mahu was over, Agudenba sang a
"Fire Song":
A raging fire
is burning,
The soul is in
a state of confusion in the flames.
Two fathers,
two temperaments,
A love affair
lasts forever.
Brahma created
Shatarupa,
A father falls
in love with his daughter.
Shiva thought
it was insulting to the gods.
Burnt the
dreams of Brahma.
Sati fell in
love with Lord Shiva,
He was
hindered by his father Daksha.
Sati burned
herself to death for love,
Shocking the
three worlds and lasting forever.
A raging fire
is burning,
The gods are
going crazy in the flames.
The so-called
father's love gradually turns to ashes,
Only love
becomes eternal.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fables makes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
