Dawa

Dawa

After the old man Lavani met Agudengba by chance, the two got to know each other very happily. Before Aguden Bajo bid farewell, the old man Lavani finally told his life story. It turned out that he was a Tibetan who had been exiled to Bangladesh due to the war. He has three wives. Polygamy is practiced in Bangladesh, but wives must pay taxes. In order to avoid taxes, Lavani did not legally register her marriage because she was poor, so she only had a cohabitation relationship with her three wives. The three cohabitants are the disabled girl Baima he took in, and the mother and daughter Nima and Dawa, the victims who escaped from the prostitute island. In order to worry that the prostitute island's slutty old madam would send someone to capture Dawa. Dawa's mother, Nima and Pema, made an agreement with the old man Lavani: let Dawa follow Agudengba to fly far away, hoping that with the help of Agudengba, he could learn more knowledge and let Dawa have a better life. .

When Agudenba came to Lavani's home, Lavani asked Dawa, Nyima, and Pema to pay their respects to Agudenba.

Agudengba saw Pema sitting in a wheelchair. Pema and Nima both looked to be in their early 40s. Dawa was about 15 years old. She escaped from the prostitute island when she was 13 years old.

Old Lavani took Dawa's hand and said to Agudengba: I had no choice but to leave Tibet, but Tibet has always been in my heart. I want Dawa to follow you to Tibet. She can be your companion, both to take care of you and to learn more from you. Dawa has lived on that island since he was a child. There are some women on the island who were abducted there. Among them are some geishas who are proficient in dance and music. Among them is a girl named Yadan, whose father is a famous musician in Myanmar. At home, Yadan was kidnapped by robbers during a music and dance performance held by his father and sent to a prostitute island. Yadan regarded Dawa as a younger sister and often taught her some music and dance knowledge. Dear Mr. Agudemba, I believe you will not dislike Dawa.

Agudumba looked at Dawa carefully. Indian women usually dress very conservatively and are often wrapped very tightly on the road, often with only one pair of eyes exposed. Although you can't tell their appearance clearly, Indian women are more attractive. In fact, a long time ago, people from many Western countries came to live in India. Therefore, many people in India have some Western ancestry, and their appearance naturally has Western characteristics. Moreover, mixed-race children originally have a more prominent appearance, with very upright facial features. Therefore, such an appearance is naturally in line with European and American aesthetics. In addition, India is relatively close to the equator, so Indian skin is generally wheat-colored, and Indians do not like white and tender skin like the Chinese. Therefore, almost none of the Indians Agudumba saw in India were fair and tender. Of course, India is not all beautiful people. People in South India are basically indigenous people, that is to say, there is basically no mixed blood, and the appearance of the indigenous Indians is not very outstanding. Only North Indians are more beautiful, because the people in this area are of mixed race, and their bodies and looks have Western characteristics. Bangladesh originally belonged to northern India, so there are indeed many beautiful women here. Dawa belongs to this category. Her mother is of mixed Indian and British descent.

Agudumba said to Dawa:

As far as I know, since ancient times, Bangladeshi poetry and songs have been closely linked. Poems are not mainly for reading, but for singing. The poet is also a composer. The great poet Rabindranath Tagore was also a composer. He composed thousands of songs in his life, which are still widely circulated among the people. The music and lyrics of the famous song "Golden Bangladesh" were composed by him.

Dawa said: I like the songs composed by Tagore. But what I like very much are Bangladeshi folk songs. These folk songs are closely related to our lives and can be divided into two categories: labor songs and leisure songs. Labor songs have a regular rhythm and often lead the chorus, while leisure songs include all folk songs except labor chants, including boat songs, snake catcher songs, religious songs and other varieties.

Agudemba did not expect Dawa to have such an insight into the concert.

Dawa continued:

I have lived on an island since I was a child and have a special interest in Bangladeshi boat songs. Bangladeshi boat song is a kind of lyrical song with long melody and wide range. Because there are many rivers in Bangladesh, boats are the main means of transportation for people. When the boat goes down the river, the boatmen like to sing barge songs. Bangladesh is located in the tropics and there are many venomous snakes. In the past, many people made a living by catching snakes. In addition to catching snakes and treating people bitten by venomous snakes, snake catchers often bring a hugely venomous cobra for performances. A ceremony to worship the snake god is held every year. The snake catcher's song called "Jiapan" is sung during performances and sacrifices.

Agudumba aroused great interest in Dawa. He asked: Dawa, if you really follow me all over the world, won't you worry about your mother?

Dawa did not answer directly, but turned her attention to her mother Nima. Nima clasped her hands and said to Agudengba:

Don't worry about us, sir. It is the most normal thing for men to get married when they are older and for women to get married when they are older. We live in Bangladesh and there has never been any tradition of raising children to provide for old age. Our children here know how to live independently from an early age. Dawa has grown up and she should choose her own life. Mr. Lavani was very kind and saved Pema and me, as well as Dawa. Mr. Lavani told us that you are a well-informed wise man and you have a kind heart. We all believe that if Dawa follows you, he will definitely change the fate of poverty and find true happiness and joy. I hope sir will not reject us.

Agudumba then asked Dawa: Do you have any requirements? Hope I can help you.

Dawa hesitated and said:

Where will your husband go after leaving Bangladesh?

Agudengba said: I am going to go back to Tibet and pray for Mr. Lavani under the Himalayas. It is the hometown he misses day and night.

Dawa said: The journey from Bangladesh to Tibet is long, mainly due to winding mountain roads and severe cold weather. But we can go to Myanmar first, and then transfer to Tibet from Myanmar. The road is relatively flat. I want to go to Myanmar to find Yadan's father. Yadan was kind to me. She has lost contact with her father since she was abducted and taken to the island. If her father knew his daughter's information, he would definitely save her from the island. His father is a celebrity in Myanmar.

Agudemba agreed to Dawa's request.

Dawa happily danced the boat dance, and the old man Lavani sang "Bangladesh Boat Song" with Nima and Pema:

Woohoo~

Nima rises in the east

Baima blooms in the river

You paddle the boat

I pull up the sail in my heart

The boat is swaying in the wind

Woohoo~

Happiness is just ahead

Happiness is with you on the road

you are my savior

I am your lifelong partner

We will stand together through thick and thin

Woohoo~

I'll wander the world with you

You and I are in love

The long, lightless night

I am the moon beside you

you are my warm sun

Chasing the waves against the wind and rain

Crossing the Yarlung Zangbo River

The boat sails to the snowy holy land

Himalayas are my home

Woohoo~

The win

d blows my heart sails

The boat will take you and me to a distant place

That is the paradise of reincarnation

There is our dream

Woohoo~

Woohoo~woohoo~

  1. Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fables makes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
