Accompanied
by Wu Tianying, Chai Jianhua visited the "Tianying Martial Arts Hall"
and had a conversation with Professor Zhan Lisong, the distinguished honorary
principal of the martial arts hall. But Chai Jianhua seems not interested in
the "cultural awareness" and "general education" mentioned
by Professor Zhan Lisong. At least Wu Tianying sensed this from the change in
Chai Jianhua's expression.
Therefore,
Wu Tianying invited Chai Jianhua to the training ground of the martial arts
gym. The trainees there are receiving training and education. The students, all
dressed in black traditional martial arts attire, appear to be of various ages.
There are young people, and there are juvenile dolls.
An
instructor is demonstrating boxing routines. Its movements and forms are
extremely brave and mighty, just like an eagle with an extraordinary demeanor,
with sharp eyes and sharp claws, and iron wings pecking at it. Do not move.
When it is fast, it is like a flying arrow leaving the string, and when it is
steady, the green pines are facing the wind, flying fiercely and high, which is
very distinctive, especially his pair of sharp eyes like a fierce eagle, which
is really terrifying.
At this
time, an old man in his 70s came towards Wu Tianying. Wu Tianying introduced to
Chai Jianhua: This is Mr. Sheng Yaoqiang, who is the head coach of Yuejiaquan in
our school.
Chai
Jianhua shook hands with Sheng Yaoqiang to salute.
Sheng
Yaoqiang said to Chai Jianhua: The students are practicing Eagle Claw Boxing,
which is a traditional boxing technique. Eagle claw boxing mainly absorbs the
characteristics of the eagle's shape, meaning and combat movements, and is a
pictographic boxing.
Sheng
Yaoqiang said: The legend of Eagle Claw Boxing was created by Yue Fei, a
national hero who fought against Jin in the Song Dynasty. Over the long years,
this boxing has been inherited and omitted, developed, and innovated, and it
has been passed down from generation to generation. In the Ming Dynasty, the
famous monk Li Quan, who was proficient in Fanzimen boxing, got the true
instruction, and combined the two kinds of Yingzhao Fanzi boxing together to
practice, and initially formed the "Eagle Claw Fanzi Boxing" routine.
Since then, it has been passed down from generation to generation, and later
passed on to Monk Facheng in the Qing Dynasty, and then Monk Facheng passed it
on to Liu Shijun, the founder of Yingclaw Fanzi Boxing.
Speaking
of Liu Shijun worshiping Master Facheng as his teacher, Sheng Yaoqiang told an
interesting story.
Liu
Shijun is from Xiong County, Hebei Province. When he was young, his family was
poor and he made a living selling flue-cured tobacco, but he loved martial arts
since childhood. One day he went out to sell cigarettes, and at night he stayed
in a small inn to rest, and practiced in the yard alone late at night, but the
sound of fists and feet disturbed the monk Facheng who lived in the same inn.
Monk
Facheng waited for Liu Shijun to practice and said to him: "Young man,
your kung fu is well practiced. It's good for strengthening your body, but it's
not good if you want to defend yourself against the enemy!"
At this
time, the young and energetic Liu Shijun was very uncomfortable after hearing
this, his face showed warmth, and he became angry from embarrassment. He wanted
to compare with Facheng on the spot, so the two competed in the courtyard.
However, the aggressive Liu Shijun was eager to win. Although he attacked the
bullfighting bullfight three times in a row, they were all easily resolved one
by one by Facheng. Hold his wrist tightly with the "eagle claw"
technique.
At this
moment, Liu Shijun exerted all his strength, turning left and right, but he was
still unable to break free. Facheng clicked on the acupuncture points on Liu's
back again, and Liu Shijun immediately felt numb all over his body, and the
pain was unbearable, and he fell to the ground.
At this
time, Liu Shijun woke up like a dream, only then did he realize the superb
martial arts skills of the monk Facheng, so he immediately bowed his head and
worshiped him as his teacher. Monk Facheng gladly accepted Liu Shijun as his
apprentice.
From
then on, Liu Shijun practiced martial arts hard with Monk Facheng, and deeply
understood the essence of Monk Facheng's boxing skills. The learning content
mainly includes: Yue's Lianquan three-rifle gun, five-rifle gun, twining gun,
string gun, kite gun, five-way big gun, etc.
Liu
Shijun also learned the eagle claw grasping technique from monk Facheng's elder
brother Daoji.
Three
years later, Liu Shijun resigned from his teacher and wandered around the
world, and spent his whole life studying boxing skills, passing on skills to
apprentices, and was known as "Xiong County Liu" and "Eagle Claw
King".
Liu
Shijun later served as an instructor in the Shenji Battalion of the Qing
Dynasty Escort Army in Beijing. Liu Shijun had many disciples in his life, and
his nephew Liu Chengyou was the best among them. Later, Liu Chengyou passed it
on to his nephew Chen Zizheng.
Chen
Zizheng also taught disciples in Northeast China, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other
places, which made Eagle Claw Boxing widely spread.
Not
long after the establishment of the Shanghai Jingwu Sports Association in the
last century, Chen Zizheng was invited to teach the art of the Jingwu
Association, specializing in Eagle Claw Boxing. He is one of the "Four
Famous Boxers" of Shanghai Jingwu Sports Association.
In the
early years, Chen Zizheng and his disciples Chen Guoqing and Bao Xiyong taught
the main routines of Eagle Claw Turning Zimen in Shanghai Jingwu Sports
Association: Fifty-way Eagle Claw Lianquan, Twelve-way Xingquan, Arhat Boxing,
Eight-step Hammer, Small Eight-Mian , Bamian Chui, Taizu Boxing, Eagle Claw
Palm, Wuhua Pao, Yanxing Boxing, Xiaoxiong Boxing, Daxiong Boxing, Qianliushi,
Drunken Eight Immortals, etc. Fifty-way Eagle Claw Lianquan and Twelve-way
Xingquan are classic works of Eagle Claw Fanzimen.
The
equipment routines taught by him include: diamond knife, diamond double knife,
seedling knife, Liuhe knife, door breaking knife, plum blossom knife, dagger,
Liuhe gun, plum blossom gun, door breaking gun, Arhat gun, big pole, plum
blossom sword, Qingfeng Sword, Small Chain Sword, Big Chain Sword, Qimen Stick,
Arhat Stick, Eyebrow Stick, Five Tiger Catch Sheep Stick, Tiger Head Double
Hook.
The
sparring routines taught include: one hundred and eight boxing sparring, one
hundred and eight hand grappling, cotton palm fist sparring, single-knife into
the gun, double-knife into the gun, big knife into the gun, kidnapper knife
into the gun, three-section stick into the gun , tiger head hook into the gun,
single-handed pair, double-handed pair, empty-handed dagger, etc.
Sheng
Yaoqiang said to Chai Jianhua:
There
are also many schools of Eagle Claw Fist in pictographic boxing, such as Eagle
Claw Fist with a whole set of movements imitating the hand shape of Eagle Claw,
Eagle Claw Fist with equal emphasis on wings and claws, and Rock Eagle Fist
with undulating and high-spirited movements. These routines are generally
composed of four techniques: flying, searching, catching, and striking.
Chai
Jianhua looked at Sheng Yaoqiang who was not tall and asked curiously:
"When did the master learn martial arts?"
Sheng
Yaoqiang then told Chai Jianhua about his experience in the Cultural
Revolution:
In the
early days of the Cultural Revolution, the Red Guards also went to Hong Kong
during the rebellion, arresting and denouncing the remnants of the Kuomintang
and counter-revolutionaries from the Mainland who had fled to Hong Kong. When
they found out that my father had joined the national army, they criticized my
father, and I became a son of a bitch in Hong Kong. Some so-called
revolutionary Hong Kong Red Guards often beat and used force against me. I
tried my best to resist, but because of my small stature, I couldn't beat them.
Once, they broke my arm and sat on the side of the road in pain. At this time,
a middle-aged man came over and scared the little devils away.
But
another strong man came over, and that man punched the middle-aged man. It was
too late to say it, and then it was too fast, the middle-aged man jumped into
the sky like a goshawk, then flew back and turned 360 degrees and kicked
horizontally, only heard a puffing sound, when the man didn't react, what
happened? What happened, he had already fallen to the ground upon hearing the
sound, and his eyes were shining brightly. This clean and complete blow opened
the eyes of the onlookers in amazement. It turned out that the flying kick that
the middle-aged man hit just now was called "Teng Xuan Hou Cu". The
strong man was overwhelmed by fright, and slipped away in embarrassment on the
spot.
The
middle-aged man came up to me, saw my injuries, and asked me: Why did those
children beat you? I told him that my father had joined the national army, and
I became a son of the Kuomintang. He asked me again, your arm was broken, why
didn't you cry? I said, I never cry.
Without
saying a word, the middle-aged man carried me to a nearby private clinic. He
told me that I can find him in the future, his name is Zheng Darong.
A few
days later, I found Zheng Darong on the martial arts training ground with my
arm wrapped in bandages. I fell at his knees and became Zheng Darong's student.
Later,
I learned that he had also joined the national army before, and had also served
as a martial arts instructor in the army. Zheng Darong was once a disciple of
Chen Zizheng. He told me the origin story of the Yingclaw School's Fanzimen
Boxing. Legend has it that at the end of the Northern Song Dynasty in my
country, Yue Fei, a famous anti-golden general, participated in Shaolin
climbing methods and created the Yue Family Lianquan 108 moves, which is the
current Fifty Route Lianquan. Yue Fei taught the Yue family army to practice to
fight against the invasion of Jin soldiers. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Qi
Jiguang, a famous anti-Japanese general, recorded the phrase "the eagle's
claw king takes it" in "Ji Xiaoxin Shu", which shows that bottom
claw climbing was already popular among the people at that time.
Zheng
Darong often taught us students: Although martial arts is a fitness exercise,
fitness should be backed by "fighting", and "fighting"
should be aimed at fitness; "fighting" without purpose and fitness
without "fighting" as the backing It is difficult to survive and
flourish. The two should complement each other. I always keep in mind the words
of the master: the fragrance of plum blossoms comes from the bitter cold, and
the edge of a sword comes from sharpening.
I
graduated from high school in a blink of an eye. There is no martial arts
university in Hong Kong, so I applied for the physical education department of
a university in Taiwan. Later, I heard that the Hong Kong government did not
recognize Taiwan's diploma, so I had to give up. Then I applied for the Hong
Kong Police Academy and passed all the exams. In particular, my martial arts
was praised by the examiners, but I was rejected because I was not tall enough
to be 1.6 meters tall. An official said to me: "You can be a policeman,
but you can't be a police officer. The police officers of the British
government must show their talents." The police officer's words deeply
hurt my heart.
That
was 1970. I just turned 20. My parents originally expected me to give up my
martial arts and start a business and help them manage restaurants. I have no
interest in doing business at all, and I often use my spare time to teach
martial arts in Catholic Church, Chinese Association and other places. Later, I
met Mr. Wu Tianying, and applied for a job as a martial arts coach in the
"Tianying Martial Arts Hall".
Chai
Jianhua looked at Sheng Yaoqiang in front of him. This old man in his seventies
was not tall, but he suddenly became taller in his mind.
