Suffering
a loss is taking advantage
Under a
big tree by the Salween River, several Burmese people were drinking tea there.
Agudengba and Chu Sanxing also strolled over. At this time, the teahouse owner
came over enthusiastically and invited them to sit down. In front of a square
table, they were served the famous local milk tea and some food.
The three
old men sitting idle in front of this square table also greeted Agudengba and
Chu Sanxing very politely.
In barely
a few seconds, the five people started chatting like old acquaintances.
In fact,
these three people are not ordinary people. From their clothes and language, we
can get the impression that they are obviously educated people.
Chu
Sanxing introduced himself: I am a hunter and make a living by hunting. My
friend Agudengba is a wise man from the western regions of China.
The eyes
of the three old men suddenly turned to Agudengba. It was obvious that they
were willing to communicate with a wise man. To the hunter, it would be polite
to just nod as a sign of goodwill.
An old
man named Wen Aihua said to Agudengba: I am very happy to meet you by the
Salween River in Myanmar. We three old men are discussing "suffering"
and "taking advantage". I wonder what you, a wise man, think about
this?
Agudemba
smiled and said: In this world, it can be said that everyone is struggling with
life. In the hard battle of life, you will always encounter disadvantages. but
Suffering
losses is a shortcut to rapid growth. There is a Chinese proverb: "To
suffer a loss is to take advantage, and to take advantage is to suffer a loss."
I understand that this means that people should be magnanimous and can afford
to suffer losses.
An old
man named Bidford said: Sir, you are right. Cheap (piányi) is the benefit
obtained without any effort. On the surface, if you suffer a loss, your personality
will actually be improved, which is equivalent to taking advantage; if you
appear to be taking advantage, your personality will actually be reduced, which
is equivalent to suffering a disadvantage.
There is
also an old lady named Feihua who is a retired English professor at the
University of Myanmar. Feihua said to Agudengba: Recently, a friend of Mr. Wen
Aihua, who is the president of the university, published an article in the
official media. The theme is "Suffering is taking advantage". We are
chatting around this idea.
Wen
Aihua, also a professor, handed the newspaper on the table to Agudengba: You
are Chinese and can understand this newspaper. We would like to hear your
opinion.
Agudemba
took the newspaper and started reading.
The
university president wrote: I have heard my mother say something since I was a
child, "To suffer a loss is to take advantage." As an adult, I have
taken this as my belief in staying away from fame and fortune. I didn't get
into a normal college, but I was lucky enough to get into a prestigious
university.
In the
face of interests, people will inevitably become excited. There is nothing
wrong with pursuing personal development, protecting personal interests, and
pursuing personal success. But life is like a marathon without a judge.
Self-discipline and durability are far more important than temporary speed. In
places where the boundaries between legitimate rights and interests and
profit-seeking are blurry, it is better to suffer some losses than to lose
adherence to principles and bottom lines for temporary gain.
Agudengba
smiled and said to the three old men: Did you three scholars become professors
because you dared to take advantage of others?
The three
old men were stunned for a moment. But the old man named Bi Defu said: I still
think that you should not care too much about life. Being able to suffer losses
is a blessing! As the saying goes, if you give up, you will gain.
Bi Defu
said: As the saying goes, "Suffering a loss is a blessing!" Although
I dare not say that suffering a loss will definitely bring good blessings, but
sometimes, suffering a loss is not a bad thing. "Suffering a loss is
taking advantage." From ancient times to the present, there are many
living examples from China and abroad. Being honest and doing things in a
down-to-earth manner, many times they seem to suffer a little short-term loss,
but instead they achieve real success.
Professor
Wen Aihua said: "If you suffer a loss, you will do something good."
An elder who has been in business for a long time once said to me: "All
the advantages in the world are taken by honest people." Although this
sentence has the meaning of pursuing profits. There are traces, but when
weighed against the larger pattern, it also has its outstanding rationality and
practical considerations.
Mrs.
Feihua spoke:American psychological expert William concluded through research:
Anyone who is unwilling to suffer and is too calculating is actually very
unfortunate. More than 90% of people who are calculating are suffering from mental
illness. This is because people who are trying to take advantage generally have
a faster heart rate, poor sleep, and often suffer from insomnia. Their
digestive system is damaged, Qi and blood are not regulated, their immunity is
reduced, and they are prone to illness. Too much desire will weigh heavily on
your heart like a mountain, leaving you without any happiness.
When
Agudengba and Chu Sanxing were chatting with the three old men at the square
table in the teahouse, Agudengba did not argue for his opinions. After he and
Chu Sanxing left the teahouse, on the way home, Agudengba asked Chu Sanxing:
Will you accept the loss willingly? Do you think suffering a loss is a
blessing?
Chu
Sanxing didn't answer, just shook his head.
Agudengba
sang a song called "Suffering a Loss is a Blessing":
Suffering a Loss is a Blessing,
This is what parents often say to their
children;
Suffering a Loss is a Blessing,
This is what teachers often say to their
students;
Suffering a Loss is a Blessing,
This is what the king often says to the
people.
Parents, teachers, kings,
They will scold those who refuse to suffer;
children, students, people,
No one wants to let themselves suffer;
tribe, nation, country,
Which team will let the Power lose?
Suffering a loss is a blessing, being
willing to endure humiliation,
This is brainwashing and drawing blood from
the ignorant people.
The blessing that everyone strives for,
He actually learned to dare to suffer
losses.
If you suffer a loss, you can take
advantage of it.
Only ignorant fools believe it.
People who take small losses and take
advantage of big things,
The final fate is known to everyone.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fableskes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s di masease.
