Wake up(319)

Old Pantou said to Nan Yangsheng, I have read an article "Memories of Participating in the arrest of the "Gang of Four"" excerpted from "Red Guard" by "China Digest". The author is Wu Jicheng. Served as the deputy head of the Central Security Corps, and has long been engaged in the security work of the central core security and high-level foreign guests.

In the article, Wu Jicheng detailed his experience of personally participating in the arrest of the "Gang of Four":

October 6, 1976, which is worthy of a big book in Chinese history, came, but Jiang Qing did not have a premonition that this was her only remaining free time. According to Du Xiuxian, a photographer who was in charge of taking pictures of the central leadership, this afternoon, Jiang Qing summoned the people who worked next to Chairman Mao to study "Selected Works of Mao" in the swimming pool where Chairman Mao lived in his later years.

After studying, she took a group photo with everyone. Probably because she still didn't feel satisfied, she took these people to Jingshan Park to pick apples, so Du Xiuxian kept many photos of Jiang Qing picking apples. Yes, October is the season for picking, and the Gang of Four is impatiently preparing to pick. It wasn't until the evening glow dyed the sky that Jiang Qing returned with all his heart.

As soon as I passed noon on this day, I felt abnormal. After a while, Wang Dongxing called my home through his secretary and said to send your driver, Xiao Wang, to pick up Comrade XX to Comrade Wang Dongxing. What's the matter, why do you always use the car from the Central Security Bureau to go to Wang Dongxing?

At about 5 pm, Wang Dongxing suddenly called directly: Wu Jicheng, come right away, to the South Building. The South Building is a building built on the dock in the east of Nanhai, Zhongnanhai. Wang Dongxing's home is in the building, and his home is both a residence and an office.

As soon as I walked into Wang Dongxing's room, Wang Dongxing stood up immediately and said: Do you know what is going on tonight?

have no idea. But now I can already estimate that it is about the same. I'm telling the truth.

He looked directly at me, paused and said: You are in charge of the outside, and Wu Jianhua is in charge of the inside. Inform Sun Fengshan to come and manage the vehicle, and transfer the car away after he gets off. I know that what Wang Dongxing said about the inside and outside refers to the inside and outside of Huairentang.

At that time, some posts and secret posts had been set up near Huairen Hall, and the leader was Hua Fangzhi, the deputy captain of the first brigade of the guard regiment. We all know each other, we see each other from a distance, we don't need to say anything, we all know what's going on in our hearts. Later I also learned that the person in charge of guard duty in Huairen Hall was Ding Zhiyou, the deputy director of the duty room of our security department.

At about 7 o'clock in the evening, Wang Dongxing came to Huairen Hall. Seeing me standing outside Huairen Hall, he asked softly: How is everything arranged? It's set up. Are you all right? No problem anymore.

Wang Dongxing further explained: They are here, and you put their entourage in five rooms (that is, the collective name of Laifutang and other halls to the south of Huairen Hall). Their cars were all parked at Qingyun Hall to the west of Huairen Hall.

Is Sun Fengshan here? Wang Dongxing asked again. I said: He followed Wang Hongwen to Pinggu, and it seems that he hasn't come back yet, as soon as he gets away from him, he will come over. Wang Dongxing told him: You must call him and let him take care of the car. After finishing speaking, Wang Dongxing entered Huairen Hall. Soon, Sun Fengshan rushed to Huairen Hall and was in charge of dispatching the vehicles.

After Wang Dongxing, the first important person to come to Huairentang was Marshal Ye Jianying. He got off the car in front of Huairen Hall. The guard who followed him was Ma Xijin who was transferred from the Security Department of the General Office of the Central Committee to the Security Department of the Central Military Commission; the other was Mou Naichuan, the former chief of staff of the Central Guard Corps who was then the deputy director of the Security Department of the Central Military Commission. We all know him. When Ye Shuai saw me, he nodded in greeting and held my hand, not letting go for a long time. When he let go, Ye Shuai said, only one sentence: Pay attention!

The second person to arrive was Hua Guofeng, the first vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. His bodyguard at the moment was Dongfang, the deputy director of the duty room of the Security Department of the General Office of the Central Committee.

On the Gang of Four side, Wang Hongwen was the first to arrive. In the afternoon of the same day, he received a notice from the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China: at 8 o'clock tonight, the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee will be held in Huairen Hall, Zhongnanhai. The topic is to review the proof of the fifth volume of "Selected Works of Mao Zedong", study the design of Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, and the placement of Chairman Mao's former residence in Zhongnanhai. There was another item in the notice, which was specially added for Yao Wenyuan, who was not a member of the Politburo Standing Committee, saying that it might involve changes in Chairman Mao's manuscript, and Yao Wenyuan was allowed to attend.

Then, followed by Zhang Chunqiao and Yao Wenyuan. They all got off the car in front of Huairen Hall. According to the prior arrangement, I brought their entourage to the five rooms. After I brought them in, I announced the discipline to these entourages: one is not allowed to leave the room; two is not allowed to talk on the phone with the outside; I ask that these rules must be strictly followed. Because of the previous meetings, I often take on this role. On this day, what I told them was not much different from the past, so these people didn't feel any different from usual.

It is said that after Wang Hongwen, Zhang Chunqiao, and Yao Wenyuan entered Huairen Hall, Hua Guofeng announced to them one by one: You are anti-party and anti-socialist, and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has decided to isolate and examine you. They were then escorted one by one into the red flag car parked east of Huairen Hall. I later read an article written by Wu Jianhua, who was in charge of the security, and he said that he was the one who announced the central decision to Yao Wenyuan. His memories must be more authoritative than me who has been keeping outside.

What I saw outside Huairen Hall at that time was that from the east gate of Huairen Hall, a red flag car drove out after a while, and there were three cars in total, but I didn’t know where it was going at that time. knew.

At this time, Wu Jianhua came out of Huairen Hall and said to me: Director Wang wants you to call Zhang Yaoci and ask him if the work over there is over. Only then did I know that Zhang Yaoci led another team to carry out the task of segregating Jiang Qing and Mao Yuanxin.

I called right away, and Zhang Yaoci told me: The matter here has been successfully concluded.

I told Wu Jianhua what Zhang Yaoci said, and Wu Jianhua said: It's all over, let's announce it too. We came to five rooms together, where more than ten guards, secretaries, doctors, and nurses from Ye Jianying, Wang Hongwen, Zhang Chunqiao, and Yao Wenyuan gathered. Wu Jianhua announced to them: Your chief, now you have other arrangements, and your original work is over. Now you hand over your weapons. At this moment, I noticed that Mou Naichuan and Ma Xijin, who were following Ye Jianying, stood up and stared round. I guessed that they might have misunderstood that something was wrong with Ye Shuai, and immediately said to the two of them: You two are fine, go to Huairentang to take care of the chief.

After collecting all the weapons, I took the gang into the two vans transferred by Sun Fengshan, and went to Huayuan Village in Haidian District, where the trade union college of the former Federation of Trade Unions used to be. After settling these people down, I rushed to the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. I informed Han Zhisheng: You gather all the service personnel from Wang Hongwen and Zhang Chunqiao's offices, but you can't talk to them about any relevant issues, and absolutely don't let any news out. Then, we ordered that the residences of Wang Hongwen, Zhang Chunqiao, and Jiang Qing in Diaoyutai be closed first.

In order to prevent leakage of information, and to carry out the clean-up and aftermath work, the family members of the Gang of Four had to rearrange their residences. There was a bit of a twist in the middle. Yao Wenyuan's wife, Jin Ying, and his two daughters would not leave home no matter what. The people I sent took a long time, but still failed to complete the task.

After the Huairentang incident was over, Hua Guofeng, Ye Jianying, Li Xiannian, Wang Dongxing and others all went to Building No. 9 of Yuquan Mountain in the western suburbs. A meeting of the Politburo was held here, and a resolution was passed on the appointment of Hua Guofeng as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission. Wang Dongxing was always thinking about the move of Yao Wenyuan's family, and asked his secretary Gao Chengtang to call me, and kept asking me about the result until he got the exact news that Jin Ying and her daughter had moved out.

Old Pantou told Nanyangsheng that some other data showed that at 8:00 pm on October 6th, it was a critical moment in the struggle against the "Gang of Four". Inform Yao Wenyuan to attend.

The first person to arrive was Zhang Chunqiao. As expected of an old comrade, Zhang Chunqiao knew what was going on as soon as he arrived at the scene. He didn't cry or make trouble, and he honestly stretched out his hand and put on handcuffs.

The second person to arrive was Wang Hongwen. Wang Hongwen was young and energetic, rather impetuous, he didn't see the clues when he arrived at the scene, but asked where Ye Jianying was.

"Where is Shuai Ye? He called me to the meeting, why didn't he come?" As soon as he said that, a row of soldiers came from all directions and surrounded Wang Hongwen. Seeing this situation, Wang Hongwen suddenly realized what was going on.

"Where is Shuai Ye? I want to find Shuai Ye!"

"Wang Hongwen, I'm here!"

Ye Jianying stepped out from the crowd and read out the arrest warrant:

"Wang Hongwen endangered the country and the people. He is now arrested in accordance with the law."

These words were like a bolt from the blue, making Wang Hongwen stunned in place, not knowing what to do. After Wang Hongwen came to his senses, he shouted desperately to defend himself: "I am not guilty, you can't arrest me!"

"Wang Hongwen, now that things have come to an end, don't hold back! The country will never blame a good person, nor will it let a bad person go!" Ye Jianying looked upright and impassioned, and ordered the soldiers to arrest him.

"Old Zhang, Lao Yao, bring someone here quickly!" Wang Hongwen shouted at the top of his voice, calling for his teammates to help. Unfortunately, Zhang Chunqiao was arrested first, and Yao Wenyuan was still on the way. As for Jiang Qing, she doesn't like meetings and is resting at home.

Therefore, at the scene of the arrest, Wang Hongwen could be said to be fighting alone. As the saying goes, "a rabbit will jump over the wall when it is in a hurry." At the critical moment, Wang Hongwen risked his life, fought to the death, went mad and rushed to Ye Jianying, trying to take him as a hostage. The soldiers didn't expect Wang Hongwen's move, and watched him rush towards Ye Jianying and almost grabbed Ye Shuai's neck.

Fortunately, Ye Jianying was a soldier and was a marshal, so he was very powerful and took down Wang Hongwen with one blow. "Wang Hongwen, in words, I can't beat you. In terms of martial arts, you can't beat me. Someone! Take him away!"

"I'm wronged! I'm wronged!" Wang Hongwen was carried away amid a burst of grievances, cursing as he walked. "Ye Jianying! You have no right to arrest me! You will definitely regret it! When I come out, I will definitely make you hungry!"

Wang Hongwen was raised on the front foot, Yao Wenyuan and Jiang Qing were arrested on the back foot, and the "Gang of Four" were all arrested.

After Wang Hongwen was imprisoned, he was still unconvinced and often defended himself in prison. "I was wronged, I was not wrong, let me out!"

Wang Hongwen was 41 years old when he was imprisoned, and he was in his prime. For a politician, at the age of 41, his career has just begun. But for Wang Hongwen, it was already the end of his career. As time passed, Wang Hongwen gradually looked away, stopped struggling, and explained everything he had done. In 1981, Wang Hongwen was sentenced to life imprisonment and deprived of political rights for life. In 1992, Wang Hongwen died in prison due to liver disease.

Many years later, someone asked Ye Jianying about the scene when he arrested the "Gang of Four". He recalled: "Zhang Chunqiao was the most calm, and Wang Hongwen was the most excited. Wang Hongwen rushed towards me and almost stuck my neck. Fortunately, my sword is not old. Take him down with one stroke."

At 10:00 p.m. on October 6, 11 people attended the meeting, including members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee Ye Jianying, Li Xiannian, Wang Dongxing, Chen Xilian, Su Zhenhua, Ji Dengkui, Wu De, Ni Zhifu, Chen Yonggui, and Wu Guixian. Ye Jianying proposed that the Political Bureau of the Central Committee unanimously approve Hua Guofeng as the chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, and submit it to the Central Plenary Session for ratification in the future. Immediately after the meeting, a resolution on Hua Guofeng's appointment was issued, and the notice was "immediately conveyed within the party."

The meeting didn't end until after 4:00 am on October 7. Li Desheng arrested Mao Yuanxin and others on the orders of Hua Guofeng and Ye Jianying.

On the afternoon of October 7, a Politburo meeting was held. The meeting decided that Hua Guofeng would be the chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the chairman of the Central Military Commission.

After Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, and Mao Zedong died one after another, Hua Guofeng, Wang Dongxing, and Ye Jianying launched the Huairentang Incident, arrested the Gang of Four, ended the Cultural Revolution without bloodshed, and the "Gang of Four" officially fell.

Old Pantou said to Nan Yangsheng: Although ten years of turmoil have passed, China is facing the "three faith crises" of faith, confidence, and trust.
