Neither a horse nor a tiger

Neither a horse nor a tiger

Betty the crow said to Agudemba:

The colorful civet cat became the vassal king. According to the regulations of the year, he could not participate in political affairs, but he knew how to protect himself because he understood the treacherous situation inside and outside the government.

In fact, the colorful civet cat does not live in seclusion. It often slips out of the palace and visits the market privately to understand the people's sentiments.

The colorful civet cat always behaves like a nerd who doesn't care about anything outside the window. Often read or draw behind closed doors.

One day, the colorful civet cat was painting a tiger at home, when the yellow civet cat came to visit him with his attendants.

The yellow civet cat was the eunuch who was the trusted eunuch of the white civet cat, the King of Cats at that time. The yellow civet cat was commonly known as the "Tu Cat", so people called him "Tu Ye" behind his back.

The colorful civet cat is very scheming. When he saw the yellow civet cat who actually held the power in the court suddenly came to the door, he thought to himself: What is he doing here?

The yellow raccoon cat smiled and said: I haven't seen the feudal king for a long time, so I came here to say hello. I wonder how you are these days?

The colorful civet cat said: In addition to reading, I also draw. My hobby is to calm down and find happiness in calligraphy and painting.

When the yellow civet cat saw that the colorful civet cat had just painted a tiger head, he smiled and said, "Can you draw a horse?"

The colorful civet cat casually drew a horse's body behind the tiger's head.

The yellow civet cat laughed: Is the picture you are drawing a horse or a tiger? The tabby cat replied: "So-so!"

The yellow raccoon cat smiled and said to his attendant: This is the mythical beast painted by the feudal lord. You can take it and collect it.

Betty the crow said to Agudemba:

After the yellow civet cat's attendant returned home, he hung the picture of the mythical beast painted by the feudal lord Hua Li Mao in his hall.

The attendant's eldest son saw it and asked his father: What is in the painting? The attendant said it was a tiger. When the second son asked about his father, the attendant said it was a horse.

Soon, when the eldest son went out hunting, he mistook the horse for a tiger and shot it to death. The attendant had to compensate the horse owner.

The younger son went out and encountered a tiger. He thought it was a horse and wanted to ride it, but he was bitten alive by the tiger.

Since then, the word "sloppy" has spread. "No carelessness" has become a folk motto.

Crow Betty said to Agudengba: In fact, the real "sloppy" is not just the attendant, but the smart yellow civet cat. He underestimated the scheming of the tabby civet cat. That will happen in the future.

Crow Betty sang a little ballad "Mahu Ye":

There is a careless man,

With the head of a tiger,

But the body is that of a horse.

Looking up is a tiger,

Looking down is a horse.

Neither a tiger nor a horse,

It's actually a monster.

Can't see everything clearly,

Carelessness leads to mistakes.

Not bitten by a tiger,

Just being kicked by a horse.

  1. Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fableskes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s di masease.
