The Historic Center of Florence was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. Within the ring road along the medieval city walls lies the city's most important cultural heritage. From the 14th century onwards, leveraging its strength in trade and economy, it experienced two centuries of architectural prosperity. It is said that the beautiful scenery of Florence's city center is best appreciated from the surrounding hills, especially the viewpoints of the Castle, Piazzale Michelangelo, the Romanesque Basilica of San Miniato, and Mount Fiesole, which offer the best vantage points for viewing the Arno River valley.
