Do my part
When the
wise man Agudengba and the hunter Chu Sanxing were walking along the Salween
River in Myanmar, they saw a little boy sitting blankly under a big tree by the
river.
Chu
Sanxing stood up and asked the little boy: "You encountered something
unhappy, can you tell us?" He pointed at Agudengba and said to the little
boy: "This is the wise Mr. Agudengba, he can help you Untie your
heart."
The
little boy glanced at Agudengba and told with confidence what he had just
experienced.
The
little boy said:
I was
playing by the river just now and found a bird's nest fallen from the tree.
There was a flightless chick inside, which looked very cute. I was overjoyed
and planned to take the bird home to feed it, but just when I was about to pick
up the bird on the ground, my mother's stern eyes suddenly flashed in front of
me. My mother has always opposed me keeping pets, especially small animals
picked up from outside. I thought that if I took the bird home rashly, my
mother would not only throw it out mercilessly, but she might also scold me
severely. When I thought about this, I suddenly fell into trouble. I didn't
know whether I should give up the bird or stick to my idea.
Agudengba
and Chu Sanxing listened carefully to the story told by the little boy.
The
little boy continued:
Later, I
figured out a way to hide the bird in a hidden place, in the small tree hole in
front of me. I then go home and discuss with my mother. If she agrees, I will
take the bird home. If mother does not agree, I will quietly raise the bird
here. So, I hurried back home and told my mother what I thought. I thought my
mother would be furious and refuse my request, but I never imagined that my
mother's attitude was very gentle. She smiled and said to me: "My son has
such a benevolent heart. It's too late for my mother to support him, so how can
he object? You bring the little bird back quickly, don't let it starve."
After
hearing this, I quickly ran out of the house and came to the place where the
bird was hidden. However, to my disappointment, the little bird disappeared.
There was only a wild cat licking its lips next to it. Apparently, the little
bird had been eaten. It ate it.
Chu
Sanxing asked the little boy: It turns out that you are sad about this.
The
little boy said sadly: "I regret it very much. If I had taken the bird
home decisively, such a tragedy might not have happened."
Agudenba
said:
Don't be
sad. Let me tell you a story. There is an idiom in ancient China called
"do your duty without giving in", "do your duty without giving
in" means to take the initiative to do good things that should be done,
without shirk or humility.
There was
a sage named Confucius in ancient China. Confucius paid special attention to
the harmonious relationship between teachers and students. He emphasized the
dignity of teachers and students should not disobey their teachers. However, in
the face of kindness, even teachers are not humble. This is to put the
realization of benevolence in the first place. Benevolence is the highest
criterion for measuring all right and wrong, good and evil.
Once,
Confucius's students asked him: What is "benevolence"?
Confucius
replied: "Just do the five things of being respectful, tolerant,
trustworthy, sensitive, and benevolent."
The
student asked again: "What are respect, tolerance, trust, sensitivity, and
benefit?"
Confucius
explained: A heart that is not presumptuous is called courtesy; a heart that is
not narrow is called broadness; a heart that is not deceitful is called trust;
a heart that is not lazy is called sensitivity; a heart that is not harsh is
called benefit. If a person does not have benevolence, he cannot be called a
human being. If a person undertakes the task of "benevolence", he
must go forward bravely and do it without any humility. Even if the teacher is
in front of you, you don't have to be humble with him.
The idiom
"do your duty without giving in" evolved from this. This is to put
the realization of benevolence in the first place. Benevolence is the highest
criterion for measuring all right and wrong, good and evil. This is true for
teachers, and it is true for parents.
"Doing
one's duty" is a positive sentiment. Brothers, friends, and brothers,
respectful and honest to each other, are also noble virtues.
In the
late Shang Dynasty in ancient China, Boyi and Shuqi were the two sons of the
king of the Guzhu Kingdom. The Guzhu Kingdom was located in Beidaihe,
Qinhuangdao today. Before the king died, he left a will for his third uncle, Qi
Lai, to succeed him. The third uncle said No, his father Wang Guojun passed
away. According to the common etiquette at the time, the eldest son Boyi should
succeed him, so in order to let his brother become the emperor, Shu Qi ran
away. But his elder brother Boyi also disagreed, saying that it was his
father's last wish for his younger brother to be the king, so Boyi also ran
away.
Everyone
has his own ambitions. Boyi and Shuqi are indifferent to power and give up
their positions to others. This is a virtue. How noble they are compared with
those careerists who compete for fame in the court, gain market advantage, and
fathers and sons and brothers fight for the throne or the throne. In Chinese
history, there have been countless bloody stories between brothers competing
for the throne. However, brothers Boyi and Shuqi gave up the throne to each
other, which was very rare. Therefore, the actions of the two brothers became
famous in Chinese history.
Agudemba
encouraged the little boy: In real life, smart people are always wise, decisive
and resourceful. Those who are indecisive, indecisive, hesitant, and bipolar
are always losers in the end.
Agudengba
thought for a while and said to the little boy: According to legend, Confucius
had three thousand disciples, including seventy-two sages. After Confucius's
death, his disciples and his subsequent disciples recorded the words, deeds,
sayings and thoughts of Confucius and all his disciples, and compiled them into
the Confucian classic "The Analects of Confucius". In ancient China,
Confucius was revered as the "Sage of Heaven" and the "Muduo of
Heaven". He was one of the most erudite scholars in the society at that
time. He was respected by later generations of rulers as the Saint of
Confucius, the Most Holy, the Most Holy Teacher, and the Most Holy Master. The
supreme sage of Dacheng, King Wenxuan, was the forefather and the teacher to
all generations. His Confucianism has had a profound impact on China and the
world. Although Confucius is revered as the founder of Confucianism, with the
expansion of Confucius' influence, Confucius' sacrifice once became a "big
sacrifice" on the same level as the country's ancestors. Apart from Lao Tzu,
Confucius is the only one who has this honor. But Confucius, who is called a
saint, is not worthy of your praise. Although he said that he should "do
his duty", in fact, Confucius had another side of him. He was accused by
the common people as a "lost dog" who "wasn't diligent in his
limbs and couldn't separate the grains." I'll give you a little chat.
Agudengba
sang a song called "Quietness":
Every time you encounter trivial matters in
life,
There is no need to sigh.
You can think about it in meditation,
Let everything fall into place.
Do your best to help others,
This is a noble virtue.
No ability to resurrect the dead,
You can't be a doctor on a dead horse.
Only when people are calm can they be
blessed
Tell yourself silently:
No need to deal with unscrupulous emotions,
Return to a quiet and comfortable
environment.
Don't look back on the past,
Facing the future without fear,
Cherish reality and live well in the
moment,
Being quiet is the ultimate wisdom.
