Agudengba smiled and said to the coachman Azhuo:

Speaking of the moon, Chinese people will talk about Guanghan Palace. Where does the name Guanghan Palace come from? Chang'e's flight to the moon is a folk myth and an allusion to the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is known to all women and children. However, few people know the origin of Guanghan Palace, the residence of Chang'e mentioned in the story. Why did Chang'e live in Guanghan Palace after she ascended to heaven?

Agudengba said: According to legend, Guanghan Palace is a palace located on the moon in ancient Han myths and legends. The inhabitants of the moon include the Taiyin Star Lord, the Moon God, the Moonlight Empress, Wu Gang, Chang'e, Jade Rabbit and Toad.

At first, Guanghan Palace was called Toad Palace, which is related to the story of Chang'e flying to the moon. There is a saying that after Chang'e flew to the moon and arrived at the Heavenly Palace, she was punished by the Queen Mother of the West and turned into a toad, so the palace she was in was also called the Toad Palace. Named Toad Palace. But later, due to the spread and development of the world, I felt that the ending of the story of Chang'e flying to the moon was too ugly, so I covered up the part where Chang'e turned into a toad, so the Toad Palace was also renamed the Moon Palace, and later it became Guanghan palace.

The "Guanghan Palace" where Chang'e lived is said to have originated in Hanting, Shandong. According to historical records, there is a famous figure closely related to Hanzhuo. She is the well-known Chang'e. Chang'e's real name was Chang'e, but she was later renamed "Chang'e" to avoid the name taboo of Emperor Liu Heng of Han Dynasty. The "Book of Songs" calls her "the daughter of the emperor's concubine".

Some historians have also inferred based on this that Chang'e's first marriage to Hou Yi was probably a political marriage between the two tribes, Hanzhuo and Hou Yi. Later, Han Zhuo killed Hou Yi and became king. Chang'e's tribe formed an alliance with the Han family, and she herself remarried Han Zhuo. Han Shui and Han Chi were both sons of Chang'e after she remarried. Hanzhi is the ancestor of the surname Ge. There is now Hanting District in Weifang City. More than 4,000 years ago, "Hanting", the capital of the Han Kingdom, was located here.

The palaces in the Han Kingdom are collectively called "Han Palace". In order to please Chang'e, Hanzhuo built a larger palace for her to live in. Grandness means "wideness", which is the origin of "Guanghan Palace".

The Han clan is also called the Boming clan, and their tribe uses the moon as their totem. The Han myth and legend of "Flying to the Moon" actually reflects the historical fact that "Hanzhuo killed Houyi and Chang'e remarried Hanzhuo".

Agudenba said:

According to legend, Guanghan Palace originated from Hanting in Shandong. In fact, during the Yuan Dynasty, Kublai Khan made the capital of the Yuan Dynasty in Beijing, and built a Guanghan Hall in what is now Beihai Park, which is where the Dabai Pagoda on Qionghua Island is now. According to historical records, this is also the place where Kublai Khan climbed high to look into the distance, admire the moon and drink wine.

Guanghan Palace was originally a building in mythology. It is indeed surprising that there are ruins of this mythical building in reality, but since it can be passed down, it probably has its value. Guanghan Palace, just like its name, is wide and cold, because one version of Chang'e's flight to the moon says that Chang'e became an immortal by secretly taking the fairy medicine. Therefore, Chang'e was punished by the Queen Mother of the West after she went to heaven, so she was imprisoned alone on the moon. In the Guanghan Palace above.

Although Guanghan Palace is spacious, there is no one who can talk to Chang'e. That Wu Gang basically only knew how to chop down trees, but he didn't know how to speak, let alone have a leisurely chat. The Queen Mother of the West wanted to make Chang'e suffer from loneliness and coldness to punish her for stealing the elixir of ascension.

Agudengba sang a folk song "Chang'e Guanghan Yin":

Living alone in Guanghan Palace,

Who feels sorry for me?

A glass of osmanthus wine,

Drunk but my heart is cold.

In the midst of chaos,

Sincere and frightened;

A mistake of Yin and Yang,

Husband and wife are divided into heaven and earth.

Hou Yi became a hero,

Chang'e turned into a resentful woman;

Guanghan Toad Palace,

Locked in loneliness all night long.

At the time of morning drums and evening bells,

The meteorite falls at dawn;

Regret, lovesickness and sorrow,

Chang'e is still alone.

  1. Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fableskes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s di masease.
