Three-legged
crow
When
Agudengba was chatting with the coachman Azhuo, they talked about Wu Gang's
wife Yuanfu who secretly had an affair with Boling, the grandson of the Sun God
Emperor Yan, without telling her husband, and gave birth to three sons. Wu Gang
killed Boling in a rage. Ling, therefore angered the sun god Yandi, sent Wu
Gang to the moon, and ordered him to cut down the immortal tree, that is, the
laurel tree. The laurel tree is five hundred feet high and can be cut back
together. Emperor Yan used this endless labor as a punishment to Wu Gang.
The
conversation between Agudenba and the coachman Azhuo was overheard by a
three-legged crow. The three-legged crow was very surprised.
Wu
Gang's wife Yuanfu felt guilty about what happened to her husband because of
her own adultery. Although she had no chance to admit her mistake to Wu Gang,
Yuan's wife let her three illegitimate children fly to the moon to accompany Wu
Gang. The eldest son turned into a toad, the younger son turned into a rabbit,
and the second son turned into an "unknown". Is this
"unknown" an animal? Or a plant? No one knows, so this
"unknown" will always remain puzzling.
There
was nothing wrong with Wu Gang, he was a diligent and honest man, but he
believed in Taoism and wanted to learn Taoism and become an immortal. For this
reason, he left home for three years to learn Taoism.
It
was during this period that Boling, the grandson of Emperor Yan, had an affair
with Wu Gang's wife Yuan Fu while Wu Gang was not at home. Boling secretly took
someone's wife because he was the grandson of Emperor Yan. This was a mistake.
This mistake destroyed an entire family.
Wu
Gang left home for three years to study immortality. His wife, Yuan, couldn't
bear the loneliness, hooked up with the grandson of Emperor Yan, and gave birth
to three illegitimate children. It was this woman's fault. She did not keep her
duty, changed her mind when she saw something different, and was in power. In
the face of fame and fortune, many women would do such wrong things. Married
women destroy the family and also destroy social ethics.
Emperor
Yan, the sun god, knew full well that his grandson, the grandson of Emperor
Yan, had seized Wu Gang's wife. Instead of teaching or punishing his grandson,
he used his supreme power to send Wu Gang to the moon to chop down the tree of
immortality. Emperor Yan's fault was not only to destroy the harmony of a
family, but also to trample on the rules of heaven and use his supreme power to
oppress the people. This kind of mistake has been inherited endlessly by
monarchs and emperors for generations, and this abuse of power has also been
inherited by the royal relatives.
Agudengba
sighed to the coachman Adhuo: Many people who claim to be descendants of Yan
and Huang, many of them actually inherit the blood of Boling.
Agudemba's
words were heard by the three-legged crow, which stopped on the 500-foot-tall
laurel tree.
Wu
Gang was punished by Emperor Yan, the sun god, to the moon. The Jade Emperor
punished Wu Gang to go into the moon and cut down a big osmanthus tree called
the moon tree. If Wu Gang didn't cut down the moon tree, he would not be able
to return to the Nantianmen, nor could he be with Chang'e. Meet. Wu Gang
chopped and chopped, from winter to summer, for half a year. Seeing that the
tree was about to be chopped down, the Jade Emperor sent a three-legged crow to
the moon tree. With a "swish" sound, the three-legged crow cut down
the tree. Wu Gang took the coat hanging on the tree in his mouth. Wu Gang
immediately put down his ax and chased the crow. After the clothes were
recovered, Wu Gang returned to the tree and took a look, only to see that all
the branches and leaves that had been cut had grown back on the tree.
From
then on, whenever Wu Gang was about to cut down the tree, the crow would stand
on the tree and scream. Wu Gang only had to stop the ax and look at it, and the
tree would grow branches and leaves again. In this way, year after year, Wu
Gang could not cut down the moon tree.
After
hearing what Agudenba said, the three-legged crow began to reflect: Am I wrong
too? Why should I listen to the Jade Emperor's wrong orders to supervise Wu
Gang and make trouble with him?
That
day was August 16th. The three-legged crow dropped a laurel leaf from the moon
to the ground. Whoever picks up the leaves of this moon tree will get endless
amounts of gold, silver and jewels.
In
order to thank the three-legged crow for its gift, people look at the full moon
and worship the three-legged crow on the night of August 16th every year.
Agudemba
sang a folk song "The Three-Legged Crow":
The myth and legend of the
three-legged crow,
It is said to have originated from
China.
There are ten three-legged crows
in total,
Living on the hibiscus tree in the
East China Sea,
It rises in turn with the sun
every day.
One day ten suns and crows,
At the same time, they flew into
the sky to cause chaos,
The whole earth was scorched by
them.
Hou Yi shot down nine suns,
This is the story of Hou Yi
shooting the sun.
The three-legged crow has golden
feathers,
The crow also represents the sun,
A three-legged crow flew to Japan,
Only then did his feathers turn
black,
Yatagarasu became the guide.
Yatagarasu is a character in
Japanese mythology.
The guardian spirit among
mysterious creatures,
Also considered to be the
incarnation of the sun,
Emperor Jimmu got lost during his
Eastern Expedition.
Yatagarasu became the guide.
Goguryeo also has a similar myth,
In Chinese, Japanese and Korean
Taoist thought,
The three-legged crow symbolizes
power,
The three legs represent heaven,
earth and people respectively.
Yatagarasu is one of the psychic
beasts.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fableskes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s di masease.
