Bagan
Xianjiu Lady
When
Agu Demba and the coachman A Zhuo chatted about the legends of Toad Moon
Guanghan Palace in Myanmar, they actually saw Chinese osmanthus wine in a
tavern called Guanghan.
Agudengba
and Azhuo began to taste the sweet-scented osmanthus wine.
Agudenba
said:
Because
in Guanghan Palace, in addition to Chang'e and the Jade Rabbit, there is also
Wu Gang who can only chop down trees, one is an animal, and the other is Wu
Gang who can only chop down trees silently. Chang'e never has anyone to talk
to, so the horror of Guanghan Palace is The problem is that there is someone
who is unwilling to communicate with oneself. This kind of loneliness is more
terrifying than not being alone.
At
that time, Wu Gang kept cutting down trees every day. Thousands of years have
passed, and the magical osmanthus tree is still as old and full of vitality.
Every Mid-Autumn Festival, its fragrance overflows. Wu Gang knew that there was
no osmanthus tree in the world, so he spread the seeds of the osmanthus tree to
the world.
In
ancient times, there were human settlements in villages along the Irrawaddy
River in Myanmar. According to legend, the Pyu people entered the upper reaches
of the Irrawaddy River in 200 BC and controlled the trade route between China
and India. Two centuries later, the Mon came to the Xitang River Basin, and in
849 the Burmese took over the Piao River Basin and established the city of
Bagan. In the city of Bagan lived a widow who sold wine. She was generous and
kind-hearted, and the wine she brewed was mellow and sweet. People respected
her and called her the Fairy Wine Lady.
One
winter, it was freezing and snowy. In the early morning, Lady Xianjiu had just
opened the door. Suddenly she saw a skinny, half-clothed middle-aged man lying
outside the door. He looked like a beggar. Lady Xianjiu touched the man's nose
and mouth, and when he still had some breath, she became very compassionate.
Regardless of what others said about her, she carried him back home, first
filled him with hot soup, and then fed him half a glass of wine.
The
man slowly regained consciousness and said excitedly: Thank you, madam, for
saving my life. I am a paralyzed person. If I go out, I will either freeze to
death or starve to death. Please be kind and take me in for a few more days.
Lady
Xianjiu was in a dilemma, because as the saying goes, a widow has a lot of
things to do at home. If a man like this lives at home, others will gossip
about her. But thinking about it again, I couldn't watch him freeze to death or
starve to death! Finally, he nodded and agreed to let him stay temporarily.
As
expected, gossip about the Lady of Fairy Wine spread quickly, and everyone
became alienated from her, with fewer and fewer people coming to the hotel to
buy wine day by day. But Lady Xianjiu endured the pain and tried her best to
take care of the man. Later, when no one came to buy wine, she really couldn't
maintain it, so the man left without saying goodbye, without knowing where he
was going.
Lady
Xianjiu was worried and searched everywhere. She met an old man with white hair
on the hillside, walking hard with a load of dry firewood. Lady Xianjiu was
about to help when the old man suddenly fell down and the dry wood was
scattered all over the ground. The old man closed his eyes, his lips trembled,
and shouted weakly: Water, water... Where can the water come from on the barren
hillside? Lady Xianjiu bit her middle finger, and blood immediately flowed. She
put her finger to the old man's mouth, and the old man suddenly Gone.
With
a breeze, a yellow cloth bag flew from the sky. The bag was filled with many
small yellow paper bags, and there was also a yellow note that read:
The
moon palace gives cinnamon seeds to reward good people.
The
trees are full of green laurels, and the trees are full of flowers.
Pick
flowers to make osmanthus wine and send it to mom and dad first.
Wu
Gang helps those who do good, and brings disasters to those who are treacherous
and slippery.
Only
then did Madam Xianjiu understand that it turned out that the paralyzed man and
the old man carrying firewood were both transformed by Wu Gang. The story of Wu
Gang conquering osmanthus is also very popular on the China-Myanmar border.
Burmese people have also heard the legend about Wu Gang and Chang'e. The
legendary Wu Gang also brewed wine in Guanghan Palace. The wine he brewed is the
famous osmanthus wine. . Osmanthus wine is a delicious drink for all the gods
in heaven.
As
soon as the news spread, people from far and near Burma came to ask Lady
Xianjiu for the cinnamon seeds given by Wu Gang. After a kind-hearted person
planted the osmanthus seeds, osmanthus trees soon grew and osmanthus blossoms
filled the courtyard with sweet fragrance and infinite scenery. However, the
cinnamon seeds planted by those with evil intentions never took root and
sprouted, which made them feel embarrassed and changed their minds to good
deeds.
Lady
Xianjiu also renamed her tavern "Guanghan Tavern" and specialized in
osmanthus wine. Everyone is very grateful to Lady Xianjiu. It was her good
deeds that moved the great immortal Wu Gang who managed the osmanthus tree in
the Moon Palace, and introduced osmanthus wine to the world. From then on,
there were osmanthus flowers and osmanthus wine in the world.
Agudengba
sang a well-known local song "Osmanthus Wine":
My feelings are in the cup
My mood is in the wine
When I raised my glass
All worries will fade away
Memories are like gorgeous
fireworks
Accompanied by joy, anger, sorrow
and joy
All the past will be scattered
What else is there to be reluctant
to part with?
Passion is slowly settling
Feelings go away with time
Can't escape the ebb and flow
When the waves disappear, my heart
becomes peaceful
Have a glass of osmanthus sake
A touch of love brewed by oneself
Feel the gentle fragrance of
osmanthus
Give up persistence and there will
be no loss
Dreams are like osmanthus, love is
like wine
Love in life should be tasted
slowly
Wine brewed with true love
No matter how long the years go
by, it will never fade.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fableskes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s di masease.
