Get
promoted and make a fortune
The Lunar
New Year is coming. The Chinese people generally worship the God of Wealth.
Every New Year, every household hangs a statue of the God of Wealth, and
businesses and hotels offer sacrifices and promotions, hoping that the God of
Wealth will bless them, so that they can get rich and prosperous.
Agudengba
and the groom Azhuo were chatting about the folk custom of picking up the God
of Wealth during the Spring Festival. Agudengba questioned: Why does the God of
Wealth not bless the beggars and homeless people who are hungry and cold? The
rich people turn their money into ashes to offer to Bodhi and cremate them into
ashes to offer to the God of Wealth. Mencius once said that "beggars are
looked down upon", which shows that there are many disgusting filthiness
in traditional Chinese Spring Festival culture.
Agudengba
said to the groom Azhuo:
In China,
in addition to welcoming the God of Wealth, worshiping the God of Wealth is
also essential. Every Spring Festival, people all over the country worship the
God of Wealth with different methods. During the Spring Festival in northern
areas, every family invites the God of Wealth back, enshrines a statue of the
God of Wealth, and burns incense and offers offerings. In the early morning of
the second day of the first lunar month, the statue of the God of Wealth is
burned.
During the
sacrifice, a congratulatory message is also recited while saluting: "The
red lights are lit, the gods are coming, they understand the suffering, and
they give wealth to the people. The poor devils stay away, the wealth is prosperous,
and the palace is filled with gold over time."
A folk
tune from the Qing Dynasty goes: "On the second day of the new year, a big
sacrifice is made to the God of Wealth. Incense and candles are lit, wine is
poured, roosters, pig heads, and live carp are offered. After the whole family,
old and young, salutes, the sound of firecrackers shakes the world."
Groom A
Zhuo said:
The scene
of worshiping the God of Wealth is very grand. The content of offerings to the
God of Wealth in the South is particularly particular. The offerings are
divided into three tables: the first table is for fruits, with oranges,
indicating a broad business; the second table is for cakes, mostly rice cakes,
which means year after year, with holly branches inserted on the cakes. , meaning
evergreen pines and cypresses; the third table is the main banquet, with pig
heads, whole chickens, whole ducks, whole fish, etc., which have the auspicious
meaning of attracting wealth and leaping fish. During the sacrifice, the host
lights incense and candles, and everyone bows and worships. Everyone is full of
hopes of getting rich and prays for great wealth in the new year. All over the
country, there are traces of worshiping the God of Wealth, and the status of
the God of Wealth in people's minds can be seen from this.
Agudenba
smiled and said:
The origin
of the God of Wealth is quite difficult to determine, and the gods worshiped
vary from time to time and place to place. The God of Wealth is generally
believed to include the so-called "official God of Wealth" Zhao
Gongming, the "literary God of Wealth" Bigan and Fan Li, the
"Martial God of Wealth" Guan Yu, the "partial God of
Wealth" Wulu Shen, Lishi Xianguan, and the "quasi God of Wealth"
Liu Haichan. These gods of wealth can be divided into two categories: literary
gods of wealth and martial gods of wealth. The most well-known god of wealth is
Zhao Gongming, the "righteous god of wealth". The funny thing is that
the God of Wealth everywhere is man-made, a god in stories and legends. In
fact, where does wealth come from? There is a very unique old saying in China,
that is, "get promoted and get rich", a person will have a prosperous
official career and a lot of money.
Getting
promoted and getting rich is a residual cancer in the ideology of China's
feudal society. There is an old saying: "Three years to clear the
prefecture, and one hundred thousand snowflakes of silver." However, the
idea of "promotion and wealth" will be passed down from generation to
generation. The key reason is that no matter which dynasty or government in
China, they all represent the interests of a small number of people. It is not
for realizing the interests of the overwhelming majority of the people.
Starting from this premise, if you have a successful official career, get
promoted and make a fortune, you will be able to gain more material wealth if
your official position is promoted. Power is a tool for seeking personal gain,
let power become a means to make money.
Agudengba
sang a short ballad "Get promoted and make a fortune":
You want to make a fortune and open up a career path;
With power in your hands, you will be promoted and make a
fortune.
Trade with power and money, and wealth will come;
The God of Wealth loves the powerful and will not give to
beggars.
The yamen is open with eight characters, so don’t come in if
you don’t have money;
Corrupt officials are difficult to punish, and the streets
are crowded with corrupt officials.
Reciprocity is a courtesy and bribery is the norm;
Money is the reward and greed has no limits.
The rich ghosts grind the millstones, and the ancestors are
honored;
If one person obtains an official position, both chickens and
dogs will become immortals.
In the five thousand years of China’s history, the refugee
situation has been extremely difficult;
Foolish people sacrifice to the God of Wealth, but the God of
Wealth is ignorant of integrity.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fableskes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s di masease.
