Mantis and
donkey
The donkey Mahu carried Agudengba all the way. Suddenly there was a praying
mantis blocking the way.
Mantises are relatively large among insects and have a streamlined body.
The iconic feature of the praying mantis is its two "blade blades",
or forelimbs, with a row of hard serrations and a hook with a climbable suction
cup at the end. The mantis can cleverly use its two forearms to perform
movements such as hooking, hugging, hexagram, and splitting, which are fast and
dexterous; the mantis' waist can be raised, bent, twisted, and rotated
flexibly; its footwork is solid and stable, and it can move forward, backward,
left, and right. The mantis dares to attack from the front and side,
corresponds to the real and the real, has both long and short, strong and soft,
and uses both hands and feet, making it elusive and impossible to prevent; it
uses chain-locking techniques to attack the opponent directly, leaving the enemy
with no chance to breathe. Because its arms are like axes, the mantis is
commonly known as the "knife mantis".
But the mantis in front of me blocked the donkey's path. Why?
Mantis was very arrogant in front of the donkey, and he wanted to express
himself. Because no one will take the praying mantis seriously.
The mantis complained to the donkey: Human beings are all blind, don’t you
think so? No one is paying attention to me, it’s so unreasonable! Who knows my
name? As early as ancient Greece, people called us "prayer bugs"
because the praying mantis raised its forearm like a praying girl. The ancient
Greeks believed that mantises had supernatural powers.
The donkey said: Why do you have to express yourself everywhere? Everyone
is doing their own thing. Why do you care if anyone takes you seriously? You'd
better not block my way.
Agudengba then asked the donkey: "Why did you suddenly stop moving
forward?"
The donkey said to Agudengba: "Have you seen the mantis on the ground?
This mantis, when it saw us coming, didn't know how to retreat quickly, but it
still came to stop us. It's really overestimating its own capabilities!"
Agudengba said with a smile: "Mantis wants to conquer the world with
force, but it just wants to scare the mentally retarded. In the face of
arrogant people, we don't need to take it seriously or ignore it!"
With that said, he asked Mahu, the donkey, to move on. When the mantis in
the way saw the donkey's hooves stepping towards him, it was so frightened that
it quickly hid aside.
Agudemba sang along:
There are always such
characters in the world,
His reputation for
self-righteousness is world-wide.
In fact, the mantis has a
reputation for blocking the road.
It's not a word of praise.
Excessive praise is
poisonous bait.
To be ambitious requires to
act within one's ability.
The fool who claims to lead
the world,
In fact, it is just a dream
of the mantis.
When the mantis stalks the
cicada, the oriole follows behind.
Think twice before you
overestimate your capabilities.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fables makes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
