Camel
skin
Once upon a time, there was an Indian
businessman who went out to do business with his servant and a camel. On the
way, the camel suddenly died. The camel's back was loaded with precious silks,
fine felts and other items.
The businessman then skinned the camel and
left with some camel meat. The businessman was going to a nearby market to sell
the camel meat. Buy another camel.
The merchant asked his servant to stay
under the big tree to guard the remaining camel meat and some goods. Before
leaving, the merchant said to his servant: "Take good care of these goods
and this camel skin. Don't let it get wet!"
Soon after the businessman left, it started
to rain. The servant was afraid that the camel's skin would get wet from the
rain, so he quickly took out the satin and felt blankets from the accompanying goods
to cover it.
The donkey Mahu passed by carrying
Agudengba. Agudengba also took shelter from the rain under this big tree. He
was very surprised: Why did the servant use those silks and felt blankets to
cover the camel skin?
The servant said to Agudemba: "Master
wants me to take good care of this camel skin and not let it get wet."
Agudengba smiled: "Don't your master
know how to make silks and felts that are many times more valuable than camel
skins, so they will rot?"
The rain stopped. Agudemba left the servant
on his donkey, singing a song along the way:
The
camel walked through the sky full of yellow sand,
The
camel walked through day and night,
The
desert oasis seen by camels,
It
seems to be just a mirage.
The
camel is actually the incarnation of a human being.
Life
is also like the camel in the desert.
I
believe there will be a day,
Camels
will surely find an oasis,
People
can also find that future.
There
were crazy sandstorms along the way,
But
when I close my eyes and open them again,
The
camel turned into a skin.
The
merchant will not take kindly to that camel,
Camels
are just slaves carrying loads;
Even
if you die, you will be skinned.
Only
fools can sympathize,
Sad
tears have no cause and effect,
Just
for the value of the camel skin.
Taking the legendary wise Agu Demba as the protagonist, I started to create the Chinese-English version of "Snow Land Fable" using the traditional fable creation method that combines poetry and prose. Writing fables makes me feel like a child again. Studying snowy culture is my prescription to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
